I've liked it more with repeated listens. Fragile vocals- reminds me somewhat of Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star or Zero 7's Sia- and dreamy, atmospheric music yet it's not that easy to pin down. One song, "Come Running", sounds like it could have been a hit in the '80s yet there are some very nice electronic folk tunes like "Injoy" and "Gold" which I can't compare to anything else. A few songs here I haven't found myself getting into yet though they definately have me intrigued for repeated listens.

Did you say...electronic....folk? You know me 'n electronic folk are like Wallace and cheese. I'm gonna be all over this like Pax on a tax cut.

Yeah, I'd say a few of her songs are electronic folk (perhaps electronic folk-pop in places). Still, to quote the signature of another board member, "of course, I could be wrong".
Yeah, "of course, I could be wrong" is one of those things I never say because it should just be taken for granted. Just like "in my opinion." If we're talking about music, of course, everything you say is "in your opinion." It's redundant to say so.

Well, I'm feeling the same way about Sol Seppy as I did about the Trespassers William album that the BeetMusic guy liked so much. I like a few songs(most notably "Move" and "Slo Fuzz"), but overall it just fails to grab me. I don't think either of them is trying hard enough. Seriously.
Sometimes you heard an album and you think, "I can see what this artist is going for, and I admire the effort, but this is awful." But other times, like with this album, I find myself thinking, "She obviously knows what the thell she's doing, and there are some hints of brilliance here, but I think she's too content to write songs that are too conventional, mellow, and don't take chances. She needs to try harder. I will tune in next album."

It's good to see a few people talking about Sol Seppy around here. I've mentioned her several times on these boards over the past couple of months, but hadn't heard anyone else doing so. I think it's a really good album to be honest. Slo Fuzz is a great song as you say RavingLunatic, but for me, the whole feel of the record is beautiful. I've played it a lot since April or so, and I still find it fresh, eerie, and intriguing. Do your thing Sophie!
I bought it before all these replies, but it's good to see the generally positive reactions from you (except my nemesis [throws shuriken at RavingLunatic). So far, after about 5 listens, I think it's brilliant. Thanks to crazed for reminding me of her!

Shuriken? I'm gonna have to look that up. In the meantime, I'll throw a rotten tomato your way and hope that that's the appropriate response.
And besides, I never said it was bad. I liked parts of it, it just didn't grab me. I enjoyed it all right for the first couple listens, but it's not something I see myself coming back to, you know?

On vacation to Crete I managed to pick up: "I vrochi apo kato" - Thanasis Papakonnstantinou "O giteutis kai to drakodondi" - Chainides.
Both excellent. When trying to buy an actual album instead of a (professionally made) copy of the same album, the store owner threw me out, called me crazy for wanting to spend more money than I had to, and actually seemed discusted that I would try to buy a regular record in his store. "No. I don't do such things here. Go to another shop." Hilarious.
I also picked up "Writers Block" - Peter, Bjorn, and John. Pretty nice on first listen. Today I manage to pour roughly a whole cup of copy on the sleevenotes though. I don't think I will ever get them back into the case.

Yeah, I hear you, its just for me it seems to be one of those "just what the doctor ordered" albums. I also appreciate it more after hearing planningtorock which is okay, but much more repetitive and, obviously, the vocals are much less subtle. It's like ice cold lemonade in summer. :ats self on back for using cliche::
Re Sol Seppy -- picked this up a couple of months ago myself, based on a strong review in Mojo, and I like it well enough but it has never really grabbed me very strongly.
Today's purchases:
"Return to Cookie Mountain" -- TV on the Radio. This was an import, but relatively cheap, and I couldn't resist.
