I gather there's some sort of backlash against Tapes 'n Tapes. Crikey, I hate trends, bandwagons and backlashes. For my money, that's the best rock/pop album of the year so far.

The Sleepy Jackson ain't bad. It sort of sounds like I expected Destroyer's Rubies to sound. I'm not totally in love with it, but it seems decent. Maybe it'll grow on me a bit more though.

After a listen and a half, I think the Sleepy Jackson is very good. It's really dense and has a psychedelica vibe to it.
I think there's gonna be a 'blogger backlash' against Tapes n Tapes. It'll be a more limited version of the Arctic Monkeys backlash: people will want to hate it because so much has been blogged about it. I like it fine, although it seems to be following an indie influences script fairly closely. But they do it well, and if the hooks bring me back to it, they'll have done their job!
As far as indie amalgam records go, Sound Team's Movie Monster is pretty damn good. Not particularly original, but a nice run of influences.

I was also very excited to receive my Aussie and British imports in the mail, including the new Ed Harcourt, Divine Comedy, and Marc Carroll records, and the first Youth Group record, along with their new release, currently only available down under...

I really like this. Other than The 3 EP's, I think it's better than anything the Beta Band ever did, and this is coming from someone who thinks the last two Beta Band albums were underrated.
I read somewhere that Stephen Mason's having some serious problems, though. Sounded almost like he was suicidal. Hope the guy makes it through.

I'm interested in all three. I know the Razorlight record is getting a US release, but I thought the Tyde was an August release.
The Feeling is one that I want to hear before I by...it seems to really divide the British press.
Along the same lines as The Feeling, have you heard Orson yet, crazed?
Orson's one that's escaped me. I really like the Razorlight album and will be breaking into the Feeling cd next. The Tyde was an ebay find. I didn't realize it was scheduled for a US release anytime soon.

Took awhile to find Black Gold but it was worth it, it's a very good album.

Orson and The Feeling are both from the same school of radio-friendly 'new soft rock' that the British critics either love or hate. Both have been compared to Supertramp. That's an accolade, in my eyes, but not to most people.

I really enjoyed Feeling's album. There were definate Supertramp influences- which I like. I'd also compare some songs or vocal styles to 10cc as well as other mid-late 70s bands (Sweet, Alan Parsons Project). Thanks for mentioning Orson, phE, I liked the samples I heard at their site, so I'll be picking that album up.
