I'm going to be really, really curious as to what you think of the Mills Brothers.
That Saturday Looks Good to Me was one of my rave faves of 2004 and time has done nothing to diminish that.
I'm not totally new to the Mills Brothers, and I've always liked what I've heard. The compilation I got doesn't look like the best sampling of their music, but it should be fun to listen to. I'll let you know what I think after I have a chance to listen to it a bit.
The Saturday Looks Good to Me album is really fun. Another one that I don't know why I didn't listen to earlier. I expect I'll listen to this one a lot.
The Mills Brothers are wonderful. If you like them, you can move on to the Ink Spots, the Andrews Sisters and Bing Crosby. No collection that aspires to be complete should be without any of these!
I too have enjoyed that Blanche album, btw.
I've been quite enjoying the Thom Yorke, to my surprise. I thought it would be dreary but I like it.
Yesterday I bought, for very cheap, The Fiery Furnace's "Bitter Tea". There's good stuff on it but, as usual, it goes on way too long. Also bought the Guillemots' EP, "From the Cliffs".

Thanks for the suggestions Peewee. I do really like the Mills brothers. I actually have a good amount of stuff by the ink spots, andrews sisters and Bing Crosby. I must admit though, that I don't particularly care for the Andrews sisters. Don't know why, but they've never done much for me.

was pleasantly surprised to see that my local cd shops was carrying a copy of Shapes and Sizes s/t, and of course I snatched it up
first listen throught wasn't what i expected (possibly due to the fact that i had just been listening to L. Bolt and Mastodon for 5 days in a row), but second time through i was thoroughly impressed with the musical arrangements that these fellow canucks had put together. highly recommended.. allmusic does a good job of explaining there style, ignore p. fork

How is this album crazed? I've been trying to decide whether to pick it up or not.
This is the first Elliot album I've heard. I enjoyed it, I was reminded of Guy Clark, and more of Pete Seeger than Elliot's mentor, Woody Guthrie. All but one song are covers, most of them traditionals. I like his voice, very vital at whatever age he is. My favorite tracks here are "Driving Nails in My Coffin", "Call Me A Dog" and the duet with Lucinda Williams, "Careless Darling". At 32 minutes, the album left me wanting more (but I bought it used & cheap so I can't complain). I'll be hunting down some back catalog, maybe looking for more of his own penned songs.
Picked up a few more cheapies at the record store which officially closes its doors today.

Ah, one of my favorite albums of the year.
I picked up Sibylle Baier's Colour Green album today. For those who like Vashti Bunyan and Anne Briggs, I recommend this set of home tapings from the German folk singer, recorded back in the early 70's.
"The Trials of Van Occupanther" -- Midlake. Just lovely.
Does anyone know when the Tv on the Radio CD is scheduled for release??? I have read about 7 reviews of it over the past two months. I hate when reviews come out waaaaaaay before the release date.
"Love Travels at Illegal Speeds" -- Graham Coxon "Leonard Cohen -- I'm Your Man" -- Music from the Film "The Beautiful Lie" -- Ed Harcourt "Just Saying/Not Saying" -- Shout Out Out Out
I was looking for the new Divine Comedy, which was supposed to be out today, but it didn't show up.
also ordered:
"Western Skies" -- Roddy Frame "Call and Response" -- The Longcut
