I've played this five times and I can't remember a single note. For whatever reason 50 minutes of this go by almost completely unnoticed.

I believe that's the liquor-induced blackouts.

I haven't been here in a looooong time . . .

Some stuff I bought recently:
The Duke Spirit, Cuts Across the Land (what a wonderful surprise - awesome)
Buckcherry, 15 (only a few good songs, the rest is filler, uninspired and uninspiring)
Wolfmother (love it)
Eagles of Death Metal, Death by Sexy (good party music - love it!)
The Raconteurs, Broken Boy Soldiers (I'm hopelessly addicted to it)
Secret Machines, Ten Silver Drops (sadly, not as good as their last)
The Best of Poison, 20 Years of Rock (go ahead, laugh all you want; I love it)
Rob Zombie, Educated Horses (what a mistake! VERY disappointing)
Liam Prodigy, Back to Mine (not as good as I hoped)
Marc Bolan, The Beginning of Doves (disappointing)
Pantera, Greatest Hits (this CD rocks!!)
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stadium Arcadium (I couldn't NOT buy it . . . but there's only a few really good songs)

The new Futureheads is a really bouncy, Jam-my Britpop/post-punk record after a few listens, mainly as background music. I liked their debut, but this sounds improved.

Regarding the Matthew Sweet album, let me know if the re-mastered version is much improved and worth buying. I saw this album (the older version) in my local record store used, and I know you raved about it so I was going to buy it. But I want to find out the difference in quality between the older disc and the re-mastered one. I'll just pay the extra money if its significantly improved.

Sadly I disagree about the improvement part, the new disc has none of the tightness and urgency of the debut. I find the new one feels very lacklustre in contrast. A major disappointment for me so far.

You can tell a slight difference in track quality if you listen to the two back to back, but the quality of the original is still pretty good. I think the main appeal of the new one is the addition of 16(!)tracks of demos, alternate takes, outtakes and live stuff.

The sound is a little cleaner (and maybe louder), but its not a MAJOR improvement. But, as ericg75 notes, you get three bonus tracks on the main album (excellent ones, all, include the great demo b-side "Teenage Female") and you get the first legitimate release of Goodfriend, a promotional alternative version of the record which includes Matthew's live cover of "Cortez The Killer" with the Indigo Girls (!).

If the $25 price tag of the reissue scares you, I certainly wouldn't steer you clear of picking up a much cheaper used copy. But if you end up loving it, you'll want to upgrade.

I love the new Sonic Youth. I think it is gorgeous. It reminds me of The Feelies and You la Tango, the meandering off-kilter instrumental parts.

I signed up for yourmusic.com yesterday, which seems like a very cool site for someone like me who has a lot of old classic rock records to buy. For people unfamiliar with it, basically you create a queue of albums, and once a month yourmusic sends you one of the albums and charges you six bucks for it. You can also buy additional CDs for six bucks (double albums are twelve). The only catches are that they charge you six bucks every month even if you don't have anything in your queue, and the selection on lesser known (and even some well-known) artists is very slim.

Anyways, I should be getting two CDs from them soon:
Blondie - Parallel Lines
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River
