Three albums I've bought:

1.) Songs: Ohia - Didn't It Rain Thanks to RavingLunatic

2.) Windy & Carl - Antartica

3.) Final - Final 3 Read about this album in "The Wire". Haven't seen a review yet. Hope it doesn't suck.

I read about that Final record on Stylus and picked it up. I've only scanned through it because I bought a ton of other shit that I was a little more excited about. I'll get back to you when I listen to it more fully. It might take a while, it is two discs. I like most of Justin K. Broadrick's stuff except for Godflesh which is supposed to be awesome but for some reason when I listen to it I hear a really bad Swans ripoff.

As a Baby-Boomer I have intentionally tried to move myself "outside my comfort zone." Sometimes I will buy a CD by a band that I read about in an article somewhere. The last two purchases were an old CD by Weezer and one by the Strokes. I found both good with creating melodic hooks, but a little weak on the lyrics, especially Weezer. However, I don't regret purchasing them. The White Stripes has still been my best foray into more modern rock.

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

16 Tons (10 Songs): The KCRW Session by eels

A cool set of songs, recorded live at the station in 2003, which I picked up at last night's show. The obvious highlights are "I'm a Loser" and "16 Tons", but they're all good. Cool

Vibracathedral Orchestra - Tuning to the Rooster
CAN - Soundtracks

Speaking of CAN, there are a bunch of later CAN records that were reissued this week including: Saw Delight, Flow Motion, Delay, Can, Rite Time. I'm thinking of purchasing some of these, I love the other CAN records I have, Monster Movie up through Soon Over Babaluma, and I was curious if anyone here had any thoughts about those later CAN records. I know Delay is actually pre-Monster Movie and has Malcom Mooney on vocals so I'm pretty sure I'll pick that one up. The Allmusic Guide gave almost all of these later records two stars or less so I'm a little skeptical, but sometimes one man's trash is another's treasure you know.

That Colleen record is fantastic. I'm still trying to make my mind up about the Danielson record, some of the tracks really stand out but others seem to go by without me noticing.

Got in the last couple days:

Big Maybelle: complete okeh sessions
This is really good. Even better than I expected it to be. Don't know why I'm surprised though, OKeh was an amazing label.

Thelonious Monk Quartet: Monk's Dream
Again, even better than I expected. Again, I don't know why I'm surprised.

Ralph Stanley and Clinch Mountain Boys: 1971-1973
Good, although at 4 discs maybe more than I needed.

Things I'm thinking about for this week:

Candi Staton - His Hands
Alejandro Escovedo - Boxing Mirror
These finally went on sale at the used store I go to

Billie Holiday - Lady Day, Complete Columbia Recordings.
Found this for $50! Now just have to deal with that pesky voice in my head which keeps telling me I don't have $50 to spend right now.

I am in love with it. It has grown more on me everytime I have listened to it and can tell that it will continue to do so. I'm going to see the m play on the 8th!
