"Future Women" -- The M's. A hugely entertaining glam-pop album -- if you like Kevin Tihista's Red Terror, T. Rex and The Kinks, you'll definitely like this!

I didn't buy it, but I received a belated birthday present yeterday: Children of Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the Second Psychedelic Era - 1976-1995.
I've been pretty slow to buy much new music this year, but even though I have about 30% of these on vinyl and have heard another 30%, this set is just a helluva good time. I don't really know what my friend paid for it (probably around $60), but these 100 songs are endlessly entertaining, fascinating and remind you of their moms and pops.
"Naked Woman, Naked Man Where did you get that nice sun tan?"

I got these two promo'd but I kept them, for sure. I like this Neko a lot better than the live album she came out with last. She makes me want to like country. Vice gave Isobel and Mark a f*cking 0/10. Their reviews are starting to piss me off.

Can anyone tell me why? it seems like he came out of completely nowhere with a "schtick" (quotations, cause some of the bands i like could be considered "schticks") and a completely unoriginal sound, and now every college age hippy and frat kid who wore out Bob Marley and Sublime now have something else to listen to constantly while getting stoned. God, i get so annoyed with this stuff cause it seems like anyone can come along with typical reggae background music, a boring voice and lyrics about "spirituality" and the hippies come running.

You hit the nail on the head: it's a hippie thing, and I don't want to understand it. I'm getting tired of the weird hippie/frat boy crowd that follows certain bands (Wilco, for one) but I'm also tired of the bandwagon jumping on 'innovative' new artists like Matisyahu who sound like bad tribute artists. Matisyahu is 311 with a yarmulke. Is it the worst thing I've ever heard? No. But it's not even close to interesting, and it's getting TONS of radio play on the local 'alternative' station which proves, I guess, that it's lowest common denominator 'world music.'
"Showtunes" -- Stephin Merritt (aka The Magnetic Fields).
I have to agree with the negative reviews of Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan. This album is a huge disappointment. There's not ONE song on it that works for me. Totally dreary. I was expecting so much more, but the songs just seem weak and the performance drab. If I need this kind of stuff, I'll pull out some Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra.

This year, the winner of Spin Magazine's Best World Music Album was...{drum roll}...Sean Paul.
...Oh...my...god...
