I've been pretty disappointed with the new Magnolia Electric Co, but on another forum, everyone loves it, without exception, with many going so far as to call it Molina's best. I think Molina's been in decline since his amazing Didn't It Rain/Magnolia Electric Co/Pyramid Electric Co trio came out in 2002-2004. What do you think of it, Crazed?

On the first listen, I like most of it. It definitely sounds like a different animal than his past releases. I was reminded of The Band with a country beat. I really enjoyed the late '90s-early'00s Songs:Ohia releases but I think the new one from Molina will be a big favorite too. The songwriting is essentially still very strong.

Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
Orchestra of Bubbles - Apparat & Ellen Allien
Iaora Tahiti - Mouse on Mars
Reckoning (Deluxe Edition) - REM
Murmur (Deluxe Edition) - REM
Rossz Csillag Allat... - Venetian Snares
Wild Mountain Nation - Blitzen Trapper
As day Follows Night - Sarah Blasko
Mecca - Office

Most of my recent purchases have been looking back over missed treasures - it is such a buzz to think not only is there so much great music to come but there is so much great music already out there to discover - some already known but never appreciated, some out of the blue.

24-Carat Black Gone: The Promises of Yesterday

Numero releases previously unreleased 2nd album from Cincinnati funksters. Their first album is a soul-funk classic, Ghetto: Misfortune's Wealth, still in print on Stax.

V/A Black Rio 2: Original Samba Soul 1968 to 1981

First collection was amazing and what little I've heard from this volume is equally soulful. Can't wait to dig into it deeper.

Whoah! I feel so conservative in the face of your Persian psych! Is it sung in farsi? Sounds amazing and I guess they are close to the oldest hashish users...

Most of it is sung in farsi. Sounds more garage than psych (check out Turkish psych for some really wild vibes). There isn't as much an Eastern feel to the songs as I'd thought. It's clearly a sound of its own and the rhythms are strange and addictive! I'm hoping for more volumes of this stuff.

Just purchased Godspeed! You Black Emperor's Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven, after seeing it pop up on a lot of lists in the "best of the decade" threads. I'm interested to hear this; what I've heard about it seems to tell me that I'll be enjoying this one quite a bit.

Fantastic album - whenever I want music that's more about texture than structure, mood than melody, I always turn to this one - being medicated in one way or another doesn't hurt either!

I listened to it carefully last night and that album kicked my ass. Great stuff, it will surely be on my best-of decade list. Glad to see you enjoy it as well; RL and FKA didn't seem to be fans in one of the other threads.

I agree though - texture and mood are what this album is all about.

The cd with the latest issue of Paste. Another mini-size mag after a regular size one. Not sure if they're going to call it quits.
