Today I bought Fleet Foxes' LP, the new Subtle album and the new Shearwater album (my local record store didn't have the new Spiritualized record, surprisingly).

I wasn't too crazy about Fleet Foxes' EP, loved the last Shearwater record, and haven't heard anything of Subtle's music yet. So 2/3rds of my purchases are risks.

My Subtle and Shearwater are still traveling in the mail, so I can't defend them at all. But I will say, if you haven't heard anything by Subtle before: If you find anything even remotely pleasant about ExitingARM, you have to hear For Hero:For Fool. It's crazy how long that album has stuck in my head.

I feel compelled to balance this Wilco moment by saying that they are going to be playing up here in a month or so, but it would set me back a good 80 dollars for my wife and I to go see them, and... well... I'm not that into them.

Anyway. Back to the topic.

I bought The new Drive By Truckers ablum the other day. There are some great tracks on it. Overall it's a bit too country for me. I like the parts that make me think of Cracker, but I don't like the parts that make me feel like a redneck.

I typically can't find anything in record store here in Alaska, but Borders had a ton of Fleet Foxes last Tuesday.

No Subtle or Shearwater though....

If you live in Chicago you should be able to go to one of the many independent record stores and find it easily. Reckless, Laurie's and Permanent Records should all have it on CD at least. Even if you live out in the suburbs you should make the trip to the city and support the local independent record stores Razzer

Yes, make sure you visit Reckless Records sometimes. Good shop.

Got in the mail yesterday:

Spiritualized - Songs in A&E

I like it so far.

I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor I was back to pondering my mortality.

Bjork - Homogenic
Four Tet - Rounds

I bought both based on various recommendations from around the forums, and I've been looking forward to them for quite a while. Here goes. . .

Homogenic is a given. Rounds is amazing IMO; hope you enjoy it

Mix a little folly with your plans: It is sweet to be silly at the right moment.

So far I haven't been disappointed. Rounds has blown me away and is a major accomplishment, but I'm not sure if it will last. Homogenic is taking a little longer to get into, but I'll give it time. Her voice is astounding, but the track 'Pluto' makes me cringe.
