Are you from Europe or did you order the import? I'm betting that since Pitchfork gave it a good review it'll be available as a non-import in the States soon.

The album is also available at CD Baby (where I bought my copy after reading RavingLunatic's recommendation & then hearing samples). They also offer TTMOE's s/t debut and Pistol Dreams, neither which I've heard.

So I was in Boston on a business trip all last week, and I came across one of those small local indie music shops I always hear about but have never seen. Awesome. I felt at home, and yet so out of place at the same time.

Anyway. I picked up three discs.

Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs
Subtle - WishingBone

and randomly out of a used bin...
Camper Van Beethoven - Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart

Once through, Death Cab is about what I expected (boring with a few good songs), Subtle is also not much to write home about, but something I can groove too from time. However, Camper Van Beethoven completely blows me away. I have no idea why I've never checked them out before. I'm a big fan of Cracker, and I've know of the Beethoven for a long time, but I never bothered to listen. This album is great. I think I will end up buying up the rest of their catalog now.

That's a good album. I've got a couple of theirs and it's probably my favorite. Seems like most of their discography is pretty good. Someone else might be able to chime in who's heard it all.

Last night in the airport I picked up:

Wu Tang Clan - 8 Diagrams

I've been interested in hearing this since it came out, but I just needed to be bored enough (and not have any other options of stuff I wanted: it's an airport shop, after all) to do it, I guess. I listened to it on the plane and really liked it.

I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor I was back to pondering my mortality.

What a great album. Saw them play it in its entirety last year, with the orginal line up. Was an absolute treat.

I just bought, received via the post today, listened to and enjoyed:

Laura Veirs - Saltbreakers.

Just out of interest (which may indeed be the answer to what I'm about to ask), why did you buy an album you expected to bore you? I have just about enough money to pay for albums I'm excited about without bothering with ones I reckon will be tedious.

That's a fair question. When I said "boring" I meant that it doesn't push any musical boundaries or revolutionize Death Cab's sound. It's just more of the same. However, I like Death Cab, and I knew I wouldn't hate the album. I'll listen to it every now and then in total, and several of the songs I will listen to more often.

On subject:

The Islands - Arm's Way
The National - A Skin, A Night/The Virginia EP
