Hong Kong diva Teresa Carpio's version of "Sukiyaki" stalked me until it became an earworm. This cover is an orchestrated version, unlike the one I tracked down on an import cd. Her other songs, mostly covers from what I can tell, range from embarrasing to okay yet nothing I've heard matches "Sukiyaki", which is odd given that she has great potential with her voice. Maybe I need to hunt down a better album from her.

1. "Johnny Barleycorn" by Frank Black. Probably the hardest rock song on the solid Fast Man Raider Man album.

2. "Holy Water" by the Gossip. Wonderful bluesy indie pop-rock with soulful female vocals.

3. "Darling We're Out of Time" by Cracker. Probably one of the most beautiful Cracker anthems with a timeless, mighty melody.

4. "Melt Your Heart" by Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins. My fave from Rabbit Fur Coat. I guess the theme is simple and beautiful.

5. "Love and Communication" by Cat Power. Another anthem with an awesome arrangement and production. Just enough bluesy and jazzy touches to make its simplicity overpowering.
