I'm really torn on fiery furnaces. blueberry boat was great, I thought. but rehearsing my choir? I've never heard such pompous bullshit in my entire life. crazy nanna's stories over the worst organ chamber music ever written? no thanks.
this is one of those "I get it but I don't get why" bands: franz ferdinand. aside from take me out, nothing else was all that interesting to me. seemed like the talking heads and gang of four did it better, but franz ferdinand was more attractive.

I feel the exact same way about the Fiery Furnaces, Tele. I really liked Gallowsbird's Park, Blueberry Boat, and EP, but their last two have been awful.

!!Thank you!!
I completely agree with you. I know there doesn't seem to be a lot of love for bands like this on these boards (I wonder why...? ), but a lot of people I know seem to love them. I can't understand it. It's as if they think that this makes them 'hardcore', even though they're obviously not if they're appearing on MTV etc. As for the music - what's there to say? Ugh. The entire song is based around a really catchy chorus, and the rest of the song was probably written in a couple minutes without any thought put into it. I've noticed that a lot with the top 40 music. Even though I don't hear much of it, the stuff that I do hear all seems to follow the same format - a chorus with a hook, and the verses just slapped on without any thought put into them. I could rant about Top 40 music for ages... but I'll just stop here.

I also don't get Nine Inch Nails at all. Some of my friends like them, but I cant see the appeal of them. I've hated everything I've heard from the band.

Another band that I don't get....<drum roll>...
RADIOHEAD!
It is crazy how many people on this forum are just crazy about Radiohead. I didn't really know much about them a little while ago, so I took the time to download some songs and try em out. I got a pretty good idea of them from their major hits and songs from OK Computer, The Bends, and Kid A, but I am unimpressed.
The only songs that I kind of like are "Creep" from Pablo Honey and "Karma Police" OK Computer. Other than that it all falls flat, (except for their music videos which are pretty sweet).
I want to "get" Radiohead because, along with NMH, it is maybe the most mentioned band on this forum. Anyone think they have Radiohead songs that will make me like them?

I wouldn't worry too much about wanting to like them. I've mentioned in a few of my posts that I've never really liked Radiohead, at least not as crazily as some, but I don't think it's because I don't "get" them. I don't think there is something wrong with you if you don't like Radiohead.

You guys just got the recessive Radiohead gene. It's not fatal or even an illness. It's just life. Your brain doesn't explode when you hear them, but you've got alternatives. Now, IF you didn't, then... P.S. I have blue eyes, so I understand about recessive genes.

I definitely don't have the recessive Radiohead gene. If they're not my favorite band, they're at least in the top 2-3. However, I suppose I can understand that they're not for everyone. I don't think there's any one or two songs that can make a person like Radiohead, or any band for that matter. I will say that I dug 'Pablo Honey' and 'The Bends' when they came out, but it wasn't until 'OK Computer' that I became obsessed with them. I think they are very much an "album" band as opposed to a "songs" band. However, I'd recommend "Let Down" from 'OK Computer, or "Street Spirit" from 'The Bends' if I could only have two songs with which to sell you on Radiohead.

damn. i tried those two songs but they just didn't hit me. oh, well. i'll try to mix in some radiohead songs. i should mention that i've found a few that i listen to: ideoteque, motion picture soundtrack, pyramid song, and fake plastic trees. four good songs, but it isn't enough in my mind to justify the hype. i wish i got them, though. one more catalouge of great music to listen to.

think this is a very THERAPEUTIC thread for some people! NEW ONES: Syd Barrett - after everyone went crazy at his death I thought I'd get The Madcap Laughs and see what all the fuss is about. I know Piper At The Gates of Dawn and it's a great album, admittedly, but Madcap is terrible. Just nonsensical rantings from a drugged-up schizo. Where's the hype come from? Guillemots - Bought the album on a whim, took it back to the shop after 2 listens, don't think I've EVER done that. Whiny, piano-led anthemics reminded me far too much of Keane! "Sometimes I could cry for miles" he moans, and I want to make him to just that with a swift left hook. But - Flaming Lips update - a pal couldn't believe I didn't like them, and I couldn't believe he didn't like Bowie, so I lent him Low and he lent me Yoshimi - and yeah, it's pretty good, I'm liking it.

For some reason, I just don't like Spoon very much. My brother likes them a lot, and I've heard both Gimme Fiction and Kill the Moonlight multiple times. I just can't get into it. Fans forgive me for saying, but it just seems a little bit boring to me.

Now it is official: I thoroughly dislike Broken Social Scene. I first bought their self titled album, and although I liked "Ibi Dreams of Pavement" quite a lot, the album as a whole was, to my ears, just a big group improvising badly. Due to the reputation as one of the best albums of later years, I also bought "You Forgot It In People", and unfortunately found it to be more of the same. So. Glad to get that off my chest.

Interpol. It's all so same-y, and the guy's voice has no emotion or inflection or anything. The guitar work in Obstacle 1 is decent, but overall the band certainly isn't worth the hype.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I never got Radiohead either, but I believe it has more to do with the fact that I like more guitar (preferably acoustic) driven jams or jazz. They just aren't my thing. I also really do not like Thom Yorke's voice. It just irks me...
I never hated any of you/I loved you all at the time

I'm the same way. I also feel the same way about Joy Division. Dude's singing style just ruins it for me.

True. I've tried a number of times to get into JD but I've failed every time. (the glittering exception is "Komakino", which I love).

I like about half of Unknown Pleasures, but Closer isn't that great to me either. I love Interpol, though.
