The best Australian music of the last 21, or, for that matter, 221, years has been made by Warren Ellis and his band of merry men, Dirty Three. And lets not forget his Bad Seeds bandleader Mr. Nicholas Cave. Coming home for the bronze medal would of course be the soundtrack for Crocodile Dundee! What a flick...
The Boatman's Call is still in my all-time Top 10 or 20. I guess. I've never made one. But it sounds good.
That's funny. What really kills me is that Schrieber's sole reason for disliking the album is based on Nick Cave writing about God. He admits the the songwriting is good and the album is pretty innovative. Fast forward 10 years, and everyone over there is shitting themselves over Sufjan Stevens, who likes to write about...you guessed it...God. But of course, it's no big deal now.

Well, to be fair, the only album of Sufjan's in which the lyrics were very religious was Seven Swans. (There were maybe 2 songs on Michigan that were religious-themed and only 1 that I can think of on Illinois.) Pitchfork did like Seven Swans, though not as much as his other stuff.
I've never heard Nick Cave, but from what I've heard, his religious lyrics are quite a bit different than Sufjan's. More fier-and-brimstone-type stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You're welcome to go listen to him. I've counted too many instances on this board of people making assumptions about artists without ever actually, you know, listening to them.
At least you admit it instead of pretending like you've been a fan for 10 years. A little o' that around here too.

Well, you're wrong. Although Nick Cave's songwriting style is darker than Sufjan Stevens, [i]The Boatman's Call[i]'s subject matter is above love as much as it's about God (ocassionally the two meet). There's no fire-and-brimstone and I never got the impression that Cave's trying to sell anyone one God. God's just another character in his stories.
But, as m.leland said, check out the album for yourself. Or any of Nick Cave's albums. The guy's got 20+ years worth of albums, most of which are pretty damn good.

Well, I guess I have listened to a couple albums of Cave's and it just didn't sound like anything I'd much like. I think the one's I listened to were Let Love In and Boatman's Call. It was a couple years ago, but i've still got them on my computer.

Hmm. Surprising. I would've thought Cave's sullen piano ballads would be right up your alley.
Oh wait. I forgot both were recorded prior to the year 2000.

Sorry if that came off as harsh. I'd just like to see you expand your palette a little. Especially since you're apparently a music fan. Besides the dozen or so flavor-of-the-month bands you talk about in here, it doesn't seem like you like anything. I just wonder how much of a chance you really give any of it.

Wait a sec. You're no Jedi. You haven't been anointed one by the Metacritic Jedi Council. Which means you must be....a Sith! I've suspected it all along.
