I know that Radiohead gets unrequited love on this site, but my favorite band ever is Pink Floyd. There are similarities, as I think both sound somewhat otherworldly. My Poll Question is who you think is the better all time band, Radiohead or Pink Floyd. I think I may be in the minority, but my vote is for Pink Floyd.
I love them both, but neither are my favorite band.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.
I'd say that this is a pretty apt pairing, and I may take some heat from a few oldtimers, but I go with Radiohead. Radiohead has always been influenced by Floyd though. (Uh oh, here it comes again. ) I've listened to Floyd for almost 40 years now, but they've never dug deep into my heart.
"Naked Woman, Naked Man Where did you get that nice sun tan?"
I know we've had the thread of consecutive albums, and I think Dark Side of the Moon, Wish you were Here, Animals, and The Wall stands up with any successive albums list.

That is a good point. Before I start, let me just say that the voting was tied at 3 before I voted for Radiohead and gave them the lead.
I also agree with mark that this is fitting pair to digress about. There is no doubt that the Pink Floyd influence is felt and heard on a lot of Radiohead's music—heck I am sure that they will be the first to admit it. I really do like both bands, but I just feel that as time goes on, the real significance of Radiohead—not just the hype that many people feel they unjustifiably attain—will eventually be felt. One of these days people will say that The Bends-Kid A are three of the greatest successive albums of all time, and they will be able to agree on it. I don't really have a problem with people siding with Pink Floyd at all though, it there wasn't a Pink Floyd then who knows if there would be a Radiohead. You have to love all the influences of your favorite bands and listen to where they got their sounds to truly appreciate them.
I've been so tired of Radiohead since I listened to them non-stop to prepare for (then be extremely bored by) The Eraser that if I see there name or hear there music one more time I might shoot myself.
Pink Floyd's really good.
I just can't bring myself to vote for either because I really can't listen to either anymore... I'm too burned out.
I think right now I probably prefer Radiohead? But it's really easy for me to say Floyd is the "better" band. Yeah, Radiohead had Floyd as a launching pad (as well as other bands) and they're certainly great, I guess it comes down to that saying "if I've seen farther than the rest it's because I've stood on the shoulders of giants." So even if you think Radiohead is the better band it's because Pink Floyd existed first in part. And not only did Floyd break more ground I'll say, they were more diverse if you look at the journey from Piper to The Wall (and beyond but I'm not very familiar with 80's and after Floyd.) And I know that's due in part to line-up changes but I gotta give credit where it's due: Pink Floyd IMO.
Realizing that some are annoyed when others say this, I must say that Pink Floyd is a band I've always appreciated but never really got into that much. I don't mind listening to their music if someone else is playing it or nothing else is on at the moment, but I've never had much of an urge to check it out when other options are there.
On the other hand, Radiohead is one of the few bands that have held the "favorite band in the universe" title for me over an extended period time. However, I'm like Boarder in that I fear I've reached my saturation point. I really look forward to the new album, and I hope like hell to see them live this time around (without question the greatest show I've ever been to). However, like with the Beatles, I don't really revisit their old stuff much any more simply because I overdid it during the discovery phase .
Radiohead wins for me, if only for the fact that I grew up listening to them, and so associate their music with particular times in my life. This gives them an unfair advantage over Pink Floyd (in terms of nostalgia), but I also think that musically Radiohead is much more advanced (again, an unfair advantage as they came after Pink Floyd as well). They incorporate many different types of genres (electronic, classical, jazz), some of which were still being defined when Pink Floyd was active (and some of which Pink Floyd definitely helped define :-) ).
Anyway, Radiohead is my all-time favorite band, so I guess there wasn't much competition in my mind.
and beyond but I'm not very familiar with 80's and after Floyd.)
I should have been more specific about this. I really meant Roger Water's Pink Floyd (ending at the Final Cut). If you want to include Momentary Lapse, etc. in your decision, that's fine, but don't hold their recent stuff too much against them, I mean they are in their 60's.
I gotta go with the Floyd. If one goes point by point, Radiohead vs. Pink Floyd, the Pinks will win every point I think. However, music is an emotional pursuit, so one could never convince another to change their preferred team. That said.... Radiohead are a band(and I do own everything of them; I like them a lot), who are not much more than the sum of their influences. The Floyd were always cutting a much more original vision in their important years than the 'Head. Musically, the individual musicians of Floyd are arguably far more distinctive than the bland boys of the 'Head (Jonny excluded). Finally, and most importantly, Pink Floyd are the better band because, well..... just because I say so, and if you don't agree, well Im taking my marbles and leaving...
Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been, Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene; As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be, So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.
Okay, I know a lot of people will hate me after this post, but meh, I'm not going to sit here and pretend that Radiohead are my favourite band, because they're not.
And in fact while I appreciate what they have done, and that they have some good albums, they tend to bore me. I find theyre music boring, and annoyingly depressing.
Pink Floyd on the other hand, I can listen to all day and not get bored. I find them far more entertaining, and exciting. Theyre music just has a much more upbeat feel to it. Of course, Floyd have theyre fair share of depressing tunes, including Wish You Were here, Craze On You Shiny Diamond etc etc, but they have upbeat tunes like Another Brick In The Wall and money as well.
I just find theyre is a lot more depth and variety in Floyds Music. Perhaps i just havn't listened to enough of Radioheads music to say that, and don't get me wrong, such songs as karma police, high and dry and creep are good tunes, I just don't think they compare to Floyds repotoire of amazing songs...
Hadn't looked at this thread in a while, but I did see that Pink Floyd made a nice comeback. They are down 20-17, but since this thread has been down a while, I guess Radiohead is probably the winner.
