animals is definitely my favourite floyd album! i can't believe anybody would find it a chore, somebody must've switched the disk while your back was turned.

I told a friend of mine I liked Dark Side most and I think he said Animals was his favorite too. I think for him at least you have to look at them all through the eyes of THC which I've yet to do. I like the spacey-ness that comes inherent with Pink Floyd, but Animals really takes it to an extreme, I think I've got too much of an attention deficit to find seventeen minutes of "Dogs" exhilarating. But I did like the idea a lot, especially when the Sheep win at the end Smiler

Animals is an acquired taste, without a doubt. I love "Pigs" and "Sheep" but "Dogs" does take some major commitment.

I completely agree which is why I really disliked parts of Headphone Masterpiece. I mean try sounding like someone else for crying out loud.

And surprisingly no one's mentioned The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

Animals is also one of my least favourite Floyd album. My three favourites are Wish You Were Here, Meddle and Atom Heart Mother

So, here's to the discussion of double (and triple) albums.

;p I really just wanted to include All Things Must Pass by George Harrison because I like it so much, generally considered the first triple album by a solo artist.

Actually, I can only even think of one other triple album off the top of my head and that's Prince's Emancipation which I think is to this day still the longest release of all original material by any artist. And now that we're in the CD age full force and I estimate the next medium for music is right around the corner, double (and especially triple) albums will become fewer and farther between as the mainstream mediums hold more and more music :/ But yeah, anything more than one unit of the time of its release is up for discussion I'd say!

(I did feel bad about not getting into Genesis much yet, but that'll be remedied soon.)

The Clash's Sandinista! is a notable triple album, although most would want to prune half of it.

Even though many consider them a joke now, Chicago put out their first three albums as double albums, and then their fourth album, At Carnegie Hall, was a quadruple album!

It'd make a nice EP. Cool

Triple albums, hmmm . . . 69 Love Songs.

Quadruple???

Quintuple? Springsteen Live 1975-85.

On this whole Animals topic, even though it's my favorite Pink Floyd album, I would definitely agree that it is an acquired taste and it can take some patience. I tried to get a friend of mine into it but it didn't do anything for him. But I think for new and old listeners of Floyd, you can't go wrong with Dark Side of the Moon.

D'oh! I totally knew about 69 Love Songs and Sandinista!, I swear! Just drew a blank for a second Wink

Also, a new idea. Rap doesn't seem as fecund for double albums as rock. Wu-Tang Forever was solid (it's Wu-Tang, how can it be anything but) but I've never honestly been the biggest fan of 2Pac or Biggie (All Eyez On Me and Life After Death, respectively.) Yet today they seem to get made a lot (I'm looking at you, Lil' Jon and Lil' Wayne.) Since rap's been overlooked thus far, comments?

this AMG review of Bone Thugs N Harmony's The Art of War has an interesting view on rap's double albums, albeit circa late 90s

With regards to "could've been double albums", I read somewhere that Radiohead almost made Kid A and Amnesiac one double album. I'm glad they decided against it, but it would've been cool nonetheless.

If they'd done that, maybe we could have been spared that incredibly dreary rendition of "Morning Bell" off of Amnesiac.

And speaking of rap double albums, what about the best-selling "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below"? Sure it was two guys each doing their thing, but it was HUGE when it came out.

My favorite would have to be The Beatles(white album).
Definitely, with London Calling just behind.
