Yep, you sure do. “La Banlieue” is track five and it is 1:57 long with no vocals. After that, it is “Cliquot” which is track six and that one is 3:51 long.

I'm suprised the creator of this thread immediately jumped to the question, "Is Zach Condon gay?" without asking some of the following first: a) did he write these lyrics? b) if he did, did he write them from a male perspective? c) are these written from HIS PERSONAL perspective d) if b and c are true, is he just straight and trying to mess with me? After those and way more questions, I would then ask, "Wait, is Zach Condon gay?" I just find it interesting how some, including what's-his-name who started this thread, jumped to the question so seemingly quickly. Also, as an anecdote, Owen Pallett is SO totally gay. He's not, like, obvious or anything, but you can tell once you've talked to him for a while. When my roommate went to see Final Fantasy live, Owen was totally trying to hit on him. Just sayin'.

OF COURSE IT MATTERS. It does not affect the greatness of the music. But you have to be able to relate to the artist and understand his intentions when writing on a certain level. Many of the lyrics change meaning if he is gay, and therefore the music does. Their may be a certain subtext and many more metaphors if he were still in the closet. So if you are a lyrical person and care about the message of the song- it should be important- just as any salient background info on anyone. Would you like to know if he went to Catholic School, or his father was an alcoholic? It might change your perception of certain songs. But for those who think ignorance is bliss- bliss off!

So, are you saying that you have inside info, or are you speaking hypothetically?

Does it really matter all that much? Not every song is autobiographical. If the singer assumes a role or voices the the thoughts of someone of the opposite sex, the song can still be relevant and affecting. Amy Winehouse isn't gay, but her cover of "Valerie" on the Mark Ronson album is awesome. Alex Turner isn't gay, but he sang an amazing cover of "You Know I'm No Good" without masculinizing the lyrics.
In high school I used to wonder about Serge Gainsbourg because he put out a really homoerotic cover of an Edith Piaf song. Later on I found out he was straight--and rather lasciviously so at that! The song was still just as good in the same naughty, subversive way.
I was 3 albums into Tegan and Sara before I found out they were gay. That knowledge did not add any levels of meaning for me. Actually, to me, their songs all sound as if they're directed towards boyfriends anyway.
On the other hand, though, "Take Your Mama" would not be nearly as meaningful (and might not even make sense,) if I didn't know Jake Shears was gay. For an album that had a lot of mainstream appeal (at least in foreign Anglophone countries,) the lyrics in the Scissor Sisters' debut album are pretty gay-centric. "Music Is the Victim" uses a word that probably doesn't even make sense to most listeners--"Tina," which is gay nightclub slang for crystal meth.

Maybe your roommate was asking for it, living in Froofleberry, U.K.

I came across this thread today because I was seeking out Zach Condon's sexual identity. I find everything that people have said fascinating. For myself I personally love to know what makes people tick. I love to know why people write things, what the influences were when they wrote what they wrote or even recorded. The reason I sought out ZC's sexual orientation is because I heard Cliquot and assumed that he was gay. I really like the idea of the song being about a widow. To me that puts an awesome perspective on the song that I didn't get until I read what someone posted here.
