Times have certainly changed.

So quick to judge Musicalifragilistic...Who among us hasn't publicly pissed themselves?
My bad. I suppose I shouldn't make fun of her. I should be able to overlook her little mistake and give her credit for being the amazing artist that she is For most ridiculous moments in music, I should have just put Fergie.

In general, the Grammys, at least the Awards themselves. Ashlee Simpson on SNL, although I'm not really sure how that relates to music.

Ah, yes, but the 00's are not finished yet, and Hugo Chavez promises to being down the imperialists and drink the blood of every neoliberal economist!! Srsly though, Hugo Chavezz is the fucking man. And I blame the 80's for starting the atrocious trends that have continued through the 90's and 00's.

I might take that comment seriously if I knew for a fact you've heard more than ten albums recorded before 1997. I don't think you're really qualified to comment on trends in music, unless you want to comment on trends in post-rock circa 2001.

...Or how about when Garth Brooks donned a shaggy wig and a Chris Cornell soul patch to record a pop album as the fictional Austrailian rocker Chris Gaines. ...Or when Garth Brooks started doing Walmart commercials. Garth Brooks is ridiculous. Although his cover of "Hard Luck Woman" on the KISS tribute album was pretty decent. Speaking of KISS, how about Gene Simmons' 2002 interview with Terry Gross on NPR's Fresh Air. That was pretty ridiculous.

Was that for a line of Garth Brooks shirts? Those horrible shirts with the black and white blocks. Yuck! Let's not forget Brooks' hip alter-ego, the country crossover grunger, Chris Gaines.

Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, 98 Degrees, etc... Laugh at the 80's all you want, but kids 10 years from now will kill the late 90's for boy bands.

A few terrible moments in rap music specifically:
Ron Artests records a rap album.
David Faustino (Bud Bundy) records a rap album.
Randy Savage records a rap album.
And of course...who could forget the Super Bowl Shuffle?
Of course it's arguable if any of these actually could be described as "music".

Yes, I know, Leland, you grew up in the 80's and you've gotta whine and cry every time someone mentions that it was in fact an awful decade for music. Jesus fucking Christ, you'd think I was calling your mom a bitch. And, yes, Eric, I know it annoys you to no end to know that I'm not an expert on 70's rock. Why you should give a damn is beyond me. Get over it.

If the 70's hadn't been so brutal, we wouldn't have ever gotten punk rock. The crappiness of the 80's launched the alternative music scene. The late 80's hair metal scene was the worst, though. I was a metal fan in the 80's and loved Iron Maiden, Metallica, the Cult, Judas Priest and later GNR. But what Warrant, Poison, Nelson, White Lion, Slaugter and the rest of the hair bands did to metal was unforgivable. That crap is having a bit of a novelty comeback with today's kids, which I can't understand.
