"It was A Very Good Year" by Della Reese. From an Absolute Funk comp. I was surprised at how raw & funky this version was and especially from Reese.

Today's playlist, subject to change:

Approach ~ Subheim (Relisten)

Remains my #1 album of the year. A dark, claustrophobic ambient record with creepy, minimal piano lines, deep, bassy cellos and synths and slow, plodding beats. Wonderful if you aren't bored by minimalism, slow song evolution and stately tempos.

Accelerate ~ R.E.M. (Relisten; playing now)

My favorite rock record of the year thus far, a tight and enjoyable mix of punchy songs, personal vocals and big riffs.

Vampire Weekend ~ Vampire Weekend

I have cleared my mind of expectations, and I'm hopeful that I'll be as swept away by this as so many others have been. Up next.

Leviathan ~ Mastodon

I dug Blood Mountain a lot.

After that, my options are open. Possibly Moby's latest if I'm feeling masochistic, or The Glimmers Are Gee Gee Fazzi by The Glimmers (no idea what that is, but what the hell). The Cure's first album is also on the menu.

Time Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet

Mix a little folly with your plans: It is sweet to be silly at the right moment.

Great song, fun piano, just a good time.

Sunrise/Sundown ~ Jesu

Slow, deep, bassy shoegaze metal stuff. Wonderful -- probably my favorite release from an artist I've greatly enjoyed as of late.

The Black And White Album ~ The Hives

Fun, but nowhere near the sharp garage awesomesauce of Tyrannosaurus Hives.

Ghosts I-IV ~ Nine Inch Nails

Still an engrossing listen, if rather inconsistent.

Explosions In The Sky, specifically their last two albums. In the perfect mood for this sort of music.

Her new record. I like what I've heard from it.

Now playing: Juli Holz's "“Tränen Auf Dem Dancefloor". Electro dance stuff from Germany.
