Nice call on the Mark Lanegan Band. I'm listening to that right now as well after reading your post.

Cracked my top 15 for 2004. But surprisingly didn't seem to show up on many other lists.

"FutureHeads" -- upon the recommendation of MGE -- it's #1 on his 2004 Top 10 list, and I have to say that he may be right!

By the way, what the hell gives with good bands appearing on the O.C. and playing at the "Bait Shop"??? Selling out, anyone?? I guess this musical period is the sellout generation.... Thank god we still have the likes of Fugazi to make us remember better times....

A lot of cool bands made appearances on Melrose Place and 90210 back in the day. The Flaming Lips played the Peach Pit, fer goodness sake!

Seriously, the Music from the OC Mix 2 is a great disc...Eels, Super Furry Animals, Interpol, dios, Thrills, Nada Surf, The Album Leaf and more. I don't watch the show (never seen a moment of it) but I give the producers credit for being hip enough to use good music.

On further review...I don't understand why making an appearance on a TV show, or licensing a song for a commercial, or whatever, is "selling out." We've got a thread that deals with this topic more explicitly here:

http://forums.metacritic.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=354108&f=646109&m=5210095152

but my question is simple: why is being on The O.C. such a crime? Is it because you want to keep this bands to yourself? Or is it because of the specific show...and that a show that was a little more hip would be acceptable?

"Fake Palindromes" followed by "Measuring Cups" by Andrew Bird. Both great the first time.

"Catch my Disease" Ben Lee

This new Ben Lee record is quite good. It's supposed to be his breakup record (he's not split with Clare Danes) but it's not nearly as melancholy as Beck's Seachange or Big Star's 3rd. After the beat-heavy, Dan the Automator-produced last record, this is Ben doing his familiar folky pop-rock. To quote the primarily lyric to this song "that's the way I like it..."
