"Brainstorm" by the Arctic Monkeys

It definitely sounds like the Monkeys, but it also reminds me of early Strokes doing the Life of Brian theme, especially when the first line's sung.

"Barfly" - Jeff Who?

My mate "borrowed" a compilation cd from a hired car he had when he was in Iceland. Some of the songs are pretty decent, including this one. I've never heard of this lot, but I'm quite liking it.

Only cd I ever found in a hired car was Ronan Keating. I had to bury it on holy ground.

perfect music for a quiet sunday afternoon

Mix a little folly with your plans: It is sweet to be silly at the right moment.

"Ballad of You Know Who" by Richard Swift from Dressed Up for the Letdown. Very nice little power-popish album, I'm especially enjoying "Buildings in America" and "Kisses for the Misses".

"Spectral Beings" by Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter from Like, Love, Lust & the Open Halls of the Soul. Spooky little track from a very nice & soulful album.

"Stoke Up the Fire" by 4hero from Play with the Changes. Neo-soul; like the music but much of the vocals are too weak for my liking, plus better arrangements might have helped the album as a whole. Still, this is a file-away-for-awhile album til I might like it better.

Man! Which post do I reply to?

Crazed: I'm in total agreement about the 4hero album. It's very close to being a very good album, but some of the vocals just don't do it for me. It's still quite nice though.

Also, I really like the Richard Swift album, very nice. AND the Jesse Sykes one I haven't listened to that much but I keep playing the track "I Like The Sound". A lot of people don't like her voice, but I think it's great. Really different.

djme: I wasn't into Alkaline Trio at all, then I got Remains and I'm loving it. Hardly a bad track. If their b-sides and cast-offs sound this good, I'm definitely gonna check out some of their other stuff.

Oh, and while I'm here, I'm listening to:

"Green Eyes"- Husker Du

One of the greatest fucking power-pop songs ever recorded (profanity cited as an example for Jglass, for appropriate usage to underscore passionately held opinion["Does rap suck or what?" thread])

I thought Jesse's vocals sounded so much better on this album (than from previous cds). Reminded me of those swampy country/soul voices that were plentiful during the late '6os - early '70s.
