These guys are most well known for their albums Leaving Through the Window and North, which were very good and decent, respectively, but their best album is Ready....Break, which came before those, and which I think they might have self-released. There's not as much electric guitar on these. It's mostly piano-based actually.

I think that's a pretty collectible disc these days, RL. I've not heard it, but I like the stuff on the two major label records, along with the Jack's Mannequin record.

Have you heard the song "Konstantine?" If not, you need to. I don't say that about many songs, but that song is an gorgeous, epic love song, and one of my all-time favorites. It's over 9 minutes long, mostly piano and voice, though I think there are some bells and some other louder things that come in when the songs kinda crescendos later on. It's pretty emo, which I know a lot of people vilify, but I love it. It's the last song off of Ready...Break.
Thanks for the heads-up. I'm listening to "Konstantine" right now, and it's damn good. It's an emo-ish piano ballad, for sure, but it's not the whiny emo I'm usually turned off by.
I'm now listening to it again, and it's amazing that something like this didn't get some radio buzz. Nine-plus minutes is too long, for sure, but given the fact that the Fray are hitting the tops of the charts with this kind of piano-heavy balladry, I think SC should get some royalty points on "Cable Car"!!!

Paperback Bible- Lambchop: This is the first time I have heard this band, I've heard of them but never had the chance to listen. His voice isn't bad and the music is amazingly beautiful. So I'm interested in which records to buy?

Really, all of there albums are great, so you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. The obvious pick would be Nixon. It is definately their most popular album, and was a pretty big deal when it came out. I would go with either their early record 'How I quit smoking' or their later period album 'Is a Woman' personally. Is a Woman might be my favorite album of the 2000s, and it is almost certainly the album from this decade that I've played the most. Again though, you can't really go wrong with Lambchop, so if you see something used and cheap, pick it up no matter what album it is.

I totally agree with Keylimetrev. Lambchop's earlier stuff had a very eerie and disturbing quality that was best captured on the wonderful "How I Quit Smoking".
Of their more recent stuff, "Is a Woman" is the masterpiece, in my view. In fact, it was my choice for Album of the Year for 2002. Many people love "Nixon", which is almost a kind of neo-soul pop album, but in my opinion "Is a Woman" is the one to get.
Lambchop fans should also check out Vic Chesnutt's The Salesman & Burnadette, which features Lambchop as his backing band. In a way, it's a highpoint for both artists, with Vic's songs getting fleshed out in a way his earlier stuff never did, and Lambchop playing on some truly great songs.

Thank you very much... I actually just went to the store and bought "Nixon" but I'll be sure to get "Is A Woman" and "How I Quit Smoking".
For some reason it reminds me a bit of Thom Yorke's "Eraser" . Anyway, it's ambient electro-pop, with upbeat dancey parts, and shimmering, broody slow parts. I like it a lot, though.
