The ending of "Muzzle of Bees" by Wilco is killing my soul (but I will survive!)...and now "Handshake Drugs" by youknowwho. This album ISN'T TREMENDOUS?
"Naked Woman, Naked Man Where did you get that nice sun tan?"
OK. I know YOU wanna kill me now, but I'm listenin' to "Company in My Back" by the Chicago Wannabees, and it's really gettin' to me. The piano and dulcimer are mind-boggling!

"Santa Claus Likes Rich Kids Better" by Young and Sexy.
This is part of my friend Cliff's Christmas compilation, the highlight of my holiday music listening each year. He compiles new (and old) holiday music for all his friends.
This years includes songs by Simple Plan, The Raveonettes, Fall Out Boy, Dashboard Confessional, Chuck Prophet and Stephanie Finch, Ryan Adams, David Mead, The Pearlfishers, Bruce Robison, and (a suprisingly good track by) Hilary Duff.

I'd thought about getting that new Pearlfishers Christmas CD. How is the song on your compilation?
The only tune of theirs that I've heard to date is the title track from "Sky Meadows".
.
"this ain't smart, dude... this ain't art dude; this is sonic economics and i'll put it on a graph for you to prove"

The Xmas song is very good and I can HIGHLY recommend all of the Pearlfishers catalog if you like lush, orchestrated power pop. Maybe I'll post something on the topic under "I Recommend" later on today...
"Down on Mission Street" by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions (from 1984's Rattlesnakes...the 2004 remastered and extended version).
OK...now it's "Forest Fire" (the extended version).
I love the commentary in the booklet...they say that, in a 1984 review, Julie Birchill claimed she had no time for "a country and western Velvet Underground." Those Brit crits always crack me up...
Right about now, I'm harkening back to The Four Horsemen 's "Nobody Said it Would Be Easy" (circa 1991) featuring their only big hit (and I use that in relative terms), "Rockin' is Ma' Business" (And Business is Goooood). Quality southern fried rock in the same vein as Kings of Leon and new Lynrd Skynrd.... Not bad...
Next up on the CD rack:
Love & Rockets - Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven Slayer - Reign in Blood Let's Go Bowling - Music to Bowl By Joy Division - Substance Arcade Fire - Funeral Shock Treatment - Original Soundtrack Black Flag - Wasted Again
Death to Videodrome... long live the new flesh! Twitter.com/metacritic
I bought that magazine recently and if anyone here in the Metacritic crowd likes a.) good indie music, b.) great indie feature films, shorts, and docs, or c.) likes free stuff check out Paste at your local magazine store.
For those unfamiliar with the magazine it features "independant arts". To get an idea this month's mag features articles on Tom Waits "Real Gone", Wes Anderson's "The Life Aquatic", The current state of French Cinema, U2's new album, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
BUT, that's not all!!! With every issue comes a 23 track Sampler CD, and a DVD packed with 4+ hours of Music Videos, Concert Footage, Short Films, and Several Trailers....
And all for SIX bucks!!!
I went to their website and clicked on "Radio" and am astonished that I have been listening to Gary Jules "Mad World", The Flaming Lips "Fight Test", Oasis "Wonderwall", consecutively!!!
The articles are usually a little fluffy, but the span of artists and topics is good. I never listen to the free comp discs, though. I don't know why...
