The first LP I can recall buying reflects both age and poor judgement, _Paradise Theatre_ by Styx. I was 13 and the year was 1981. I labored through about two years of prog and art rock before I crated the whole collection up, dragged it down to the local used shop and swapped it all out for a Coleman Hawkins LP and an Eric Dolphy boxed set.
First LP: Herb Alpert's Whipped Cream and Other Delights - and I was too young to appreciate the cover, I think.
First Single: Jumping Jack Flash - as our family was basically working class and as I didn't buy many singles (when I had a paper route, I bought LPs), I'm counting my older brother's birthday present as my first. Its what I remember.
When I was about 10, this beautiful girl moved across the street, so I used to ride my blue stingray back and forth to try to get her attention. Eventually, I got it and was invited to her birthday party. Now, you know, at the time, everybody enjoyed that album--it had lots of popular songs. Well, I gave that to her on her birthday, and thinking about it, I doubt I knew what the hell the cover meant, but it did convey something along the lines of what I was feeling. I really did like that girl, but something else I shouldn't reveal, is that I was playing tambourine with my 45 of the Beatles' "Nowhere Man" while we were both sitting on her bed, and I broke the stupid tambourine. Luckily, it was a clean break so I could still play it, even though every 1 1/3 seconds, you'd hear pfhht. Ah, young love.

That's pretty funny. My first concert (with the parents, no less) was Hall & Oats on their Maneater tour - Univeral Ampitheater in approx 1982... It's even funnier to think back about what a "rock star" Daryl Hall was back then.

Hey, I figured out how to do this. I don't recall any sexual tension intrinic to Nowhere Man. 10, eh.

Yeah, that was my first concert as well. Daryl Hall may still have one of the all time great white soul voices, although he doesn't sound as good now as he did in the 80's. Love that duet he did with Elvis Costello...
I think the first album I bought was "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player" by Elton John. For "Crocodile Rock".
However, I know that ONE of the first albums I bought was by The Partridge Family! The one with the song "I Think I Love You". Or maybe my parents bought it for me...whatever.
First song I ever downloaded: For some strange reason, I believe it was "Viva Las Vegas" by Elvis Presley.
My first LP was "Magical Mystery Tour" by the Beatles on vinyl. I was in fourth grade (24 years ago), and my grandfather gave me money for my birthday -- one of the local radio stations in Atlanta had run a "Paul is Dead?" radio documentary special, so I wanted to hear the alleged "I bury Paul" at the end of "Strawberry Fields Forever."
I think this also needs resuscitation, so anyone who hasn't done so, please share. Remember everyone, some topics have a whole other page of threads. They're not lousy, just a bit lonely. Go get friendly.
