'Man overboard' - blink-182

I think it'd suit perfectly

There are lots of versions of this song. I'm quite fond of Buckley's version too. However Bob Dylan did an interesting Gospel/Blues version that may me more appropriate for a funeral. Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, and ex-Modern Lover Jonathan Richman also did some pretty nice covers of that song.

Either Of Montreal - Scenes From My Funeral
or
The Dismemberment Plan - Sentimental Man

There is no heaven and there's no hell
No limbo in between -- I think it's all a lie
Just a white light out to velvet black
and back to neutral gray -- that's all when we die

Malondron - sorry about that! Good to see there will be another spaghetti western funeral out there. All squinting eyes and cruel smiles in the clouds of my newly departed dust...

I always thought "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star would be a good funeral song; that and Will Oldham's "Death to Everyone"

Tonight I Will Retire - Damien Jurado

Comin' Home - City And Colour
Life Goes On - Tupac
I Miss You - Blink 182
Good Morning (A Nice Hell) - Bronze Nazareth
With You I'm Born Again - John Legend
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead

That's a pretty morbid list, but that's definitely what I want them to hear.

This is a funny thread topic for me because I've recently been watching lots and lots of "Six Feet Under" on DVD, and have been thinking to myself this very question!

Here's what I've come up with:

Radiohead - Let Down
Where Do We Go From Here? - Buffy the Musical
Agaetis Byjrun - Sigur Ros
The Maker Makes - Rufus Wainwright
There Is a Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths
You Have Killed Me - Morrissey
Duk Koo Kim - Sun Kil Moon
and
Rebellion (Lies) - Arcade Fire

I'd start it off w/ Life is a Carnival- The band move on to Life's a Bitch- Nas (No, silly, Mac Dre's just doesn't fit the occasion!)... I chose these two back to back for polarity.

And I want my last song to be Run, Devil, Run- Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins. I wanna let 'em know that he's got a handful comin to him...

Playing this song at my funeral would be extremely mean, actually, because it's such an extremely depressing, sad song. As if a death isn't already extremely depressing and sad.

But you probably should pick relatively sad songs for your funeral. Who wants to listen to happy music when they're really sad? I sure as hell don't. Of course, they shouldn't be entirely dark but should have an underpinning of beauty and hope. I think "Duk Koo Kim" fits that bill perfectly.

I've thought about this way to much. First as I'm dying I want someone to come and play "Free Bird" by Lynrd Skynrd. I want my funeral to have a sound track including a slide show of my life to "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder and "Hey Ya!" by Outkast and everyone has to dance and for the big finale my coffin will be proped up as the smoke machine is turned on a pare of wings will unfold as "Bat Out Of Hell" by Meatloaf plays and my coffin will be raised. Everyone will walk out to "Hi-Way to Hell" by ACDC. It will be a true bogan funeral.

My choice for funeral would be "'Til I die" by The Beach Boys.
But a few years ago I dreamt of my own funeral and the music played was the song "Optimistic" by Radiohead. I don't why, I can't explain that, that was just the dream I had... Roll Eyes
Since that moment I feel something special every time I listen to it.

I would like to dedicate one song to all present from congregations I served: Eleanor Rigby "All the Lonely People, where do they all come from?"

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!
