I know that GYBE! does have something of a strong underground following, but they hadn't been mentioned in this thread yet for whatever reason.

Yeah, the first line of my post was intended as a joke.

I think on the whole exit is a better cohesive album.I agree with u on that. But i think 'joyfull rebellion' ha some standout tracks and some of his best work.Including "crabbukit" and "love song".

This seems like a good opportunity to tell everyone that if they haven't already, do not buy You Forgot It In People. It is awful.

Awful is a strong word, but it's definitely overrated.

I swear everyone just says they hate 'Funeral' because Pitchfork likes it. 'Funeral' is a good album everybody!

Anyways, awful is a bit of a strong word, but I was pissed when I bought it (because of Pitchfork, as a matter of fact...damn them!) because it wasn't anywhere close to the "stunning work of genius" I was anticipating. Boring, repetitive and mopey.

I've spent part of the morning listening to three mp3s from Canadian Kate Maki's web site. If you like alt-country/Americana in the vein of Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, she won't disappoint.

Now Playing: "Graves Disease" Matt Pond PA Wintersongs

well, at the risk of creating some uproar about a Broken Social Scene side project (i love bss. nearly perfect album, perfect show. pretty much the same for arcade fire as well):

no one has given much attention to Apostle of Hustle. i just bought this record, and i love it. not in my top ten of 2004 i guess, but i do love it. it came out months ago, and trend-setters pitchfork just reviewed it this week, with a 7.7...oh well, i sure enjoyed it, i think people who think a less popped out broken social scene sounds interesting would enjoy this quite a bit. check it out.

By Divine Right are a sadly under-rated band (power-pop at its finest)

Summerlad are a new group to come out of Calgary too. They are going to get some press with their new album Themes: International.

Weren't PURE Canadians?

Their Denial single used to blow my mind in the 90s.

In fact it's one of my 90s definitive tracks (as in "most telling and message-conveying").
