Theres some times when MMJ has me looking at my watch wondering when the song is actually gonna end.

On It Still Moves the extended instrumental jams and extended outros can get a little tiresome. Z is awesome because they learned that not all of there songs have to go over 5 minutes.

I don't think there is a band who has released more than 2 or 3 albums that has never released a bad song.

That being said I have enjoyed every song I have heard by Voxtrot. I have about 12 of their songs. I'm not saying they are going to be the next Beatles, but they are the only band that I can say I've enjoyed every song of theirs.

At three albums each, I think The Shins, The New Pornographers, and Mastodon haven't released a "bad" song, at least, not a song significantly below each of their respective high standards.

I'll definitely give you Minor Threat. But when your whole discography consists of 27 songs and about 50 minutes of music then it's easy not have any misteps.

Fugazi's been pretty sparkling. I think they've got 7 albums and I can't recall an incredibly weak moment on any of them. End Hits is a little shaky but I still enjoy it.

i know it says bands... but there are some artists too that shouldn't be overlooked. and yes, i realize most of these selections only have 2 or 3 albums.

ted leo & the pharmacists
ghostface killah
junior boys
joy division
kanye west
portishead
clipse
bjork (though debatable)
the stone roses (also debatable)

As much as I love Clipse, Ghostface, Junior Boys, and Ted Leo, I can safely say that they've put out atleast a few tracks that aren't to my liking.

Kanye has put out more rotten eggs than good songs, imo.

Much as I LOVE the Pixies, I could never get into Bossanova. I think I'll go put it on and see if that's changed. . .

I know not too many people would agreee with me, but Frank Black hasn't put out a dud IMO. I even like Cult of Ray. His stuff from that record on, has been fabulous.

That's weird Jack. Most people cite Tromp Le Monde as the worst Pixies album. I think Bossanova, while not the best, has some great moments - "Velouria", "Alison", "Rock Music", "Dig For Fire".

I never said it's the worst album, I just said I couldn't get into it. For whatever reason, the singles from that album ("Velouria" and "Alison" in particular) always got under my skin. Also, I wore Doolittle out, absolutely loved every second of it-- in retrospect, any follow-up album would have probably rubbed me the wrong way. I guess when Trompe le Monde came out I was just ready to embrace them and it didn't hurt that they covered a Jesus and Mary Chain song. In my original post, I said I was going to revisit the album, I have yet to blow the dust off my copy. I promise, I will today!

I'm not saying that they will never, but three bands currently putting out stuff have not dissatisfied me yet. This doesn't mean that they will not, it just means that they have not (yet, and I hope they never do!). The bands are the Decemberists, the New Pornographers, and Fountains of Wayne. An odd crew, but I love all of their songs. I would add Death Cab, but their early stuff is kinda...meh.

I'm a huge Frank fan/defender, (check the screen name) but I'd argue he's got at least a couple of duds (remember, we're talking songs here).
The only artist I can think of that really deserves this honor is the late, great, (already mentioned twice) Nick Drake. Only three albums, but each is flawless.

Yup, yer right. When I made that original post I didn't realize we were talking songs. I thought it just meant a solid catalog of albums. I meant to mention that before.

I haven't heard Fold Your Hands Child, but I love and adore Dear Catastrophe Waitress. Probably my favorite of theirs.

I heard the one of theirs to avoid is the Storytelling soundtrack...

I know this topic said bands that have never laid an egg (i.e., produced a bad song). No bands come to mind. Even my favorite bands have put out songs that I would not put on my iPod.

However, there is one artist that I can think of that I have never skipped a track. I can't even make a top 10 list or choose a favorite tune.

Elliott Smith
