Joy Division, b-sides, outtakes and all. But, its another one of those bands that were only in it for a short period and never had the chance to get bad.

I dont think there is anyone who has had a long career and not made a bad album, let alone no bad songs. For me the closest to a 'lengthy' and brilliant career is probably The Replacements, but they have quite a few bad moments but they only lasted 12 years, so again not that long.

12 years isn't that long? I don't know if I agree with that. That's much longer then most bands stay together.

This is a good one as well. I think both of their albums are great and are in my top albums of the year for 2004, 2005, respectively--both are in the top five actually. Good choices Anthony, I kind of prefer You Could Have it So Much Better, which do you like more?

I'm pretty sure Andrew Bird is incapable of making a bad cd. All of his efforts since The Swimming Hour (which I think is his best) have been at least good if not great albums. As far as his earlier stuff is concered, I can't say much about it since I don't really like the genre of music he played, but I've seen in many places that he was one of the best newer artists of the genre.

... holy words!!...teenage fanclub and wilco...but why not mention their sources of inspiration...2 names: BIG STAR( i would pay to hear 1 single bad song!... i mean before the re-union ...could we cross out the reunions?) and LOVE

..but why nobody did say Elliot Smith?

...my list is so long..

I know music is subjective, and yeah, we all approach it differently, but the second record is far from rubbish.
It's not as surprising as the first, but it is more polished, and the songs are stronger overall.

Agreed.
I didn't think about FF, they definitely fit this thread.

This is an interesting choice crazed in that I do agree with you. When I saw the thread's question I thought that it was nearly impossible for a band/artist to have a near-perfect catalog but I see your point with The White Stripes. I think all of their albums are really good. I didn't care at all for the work Jack White did with The Raconteurs but as for The White Stripes go, everything sounds good. From the jumbled mess of an album their self-titled debut is, to their commercially-successful triumph that Elephant is, to the very solid and underrated Get Behind Me Satan, it is all very good.

I wouldn't say the white stripes, there are a few songs on on de stijl and get behind me satan that don't go anywhere and are kind of a yawn. Sorry I just can't stand I'm lonely.

Crowded House definitely...while there is a small number of tracks among their four albums that aren't as great as the rest, they are by no means stinkers, just not stupendous. All four albums are just solid, solid, solid.

Even their B-sides/rarities album "Afterglow" is filled with excellent tracks. Hopefully their upcoming fifth album can uphold that.

Elephant Micah

J. Tillman

Those are the only ones I can think of with more than a couple albums. Sufjan Stevens isn't too far off though and neither is Okkervil River.

Nah, the second FF album didn't do it for me.

I would say Coldplay but I'm afraid I'll be lynched. Smiler

Coldplay could be a contender but maybe they didn't take too many risks on their newest album so...actually there are some tracks on x and y that are pedestrian and skippable.

Well it all depends on what you mean by rotten egg, and which releases you include. If by stinker you mean tracks you skip most times because you just can't stand them, Radiohead would deffinately fit that catagory (I havn't yet got pablo honey). But unfortunately for them their b sides get a high level of scrutiny.

Concurrently I think Sufjan Radiohead makes albums and not tracks so its hard to criticise each individual song. I mean there are 22 tracks on illinoise and only 10 of them are actual songs.

A lot of wishful thinking on this thread... Roll Eyes

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.
