Like what I've heard so far. Joshua Radin - Nope. Cary Brothers - Nope. Klaxons - Nope. Bjӧrk - Aware of, but never listened to. Beck - See above. Haha. The Verve - See above again. Keane - Nope. Spoon - Listened to Gimme Fiction. Liked some of it. Haven't picked up Ga Ga Ga Ga yet though, but will at some point in the near future. Snow Patrol - I remember listening to Spitting Games a long time ago, but besides that, nope. Okkervil River - Yes. Didn't like that much. The Polyphonic Spree - Aware of, but haven't been able to find any of their stuff. Toad The Wet Sprocket - Nope. The Weepies - Listened to a couple of their songs and was turned off by it for some reason. Though I will go back and listen to it again. Rӧyksopp - Nope. Gary Jules - Nope.
Any I put yes beside, I have heard and liked. Any I put nope beside I will check out now that I know about them. From this post. You've been a big help on my search for new music. Thanks a lot.
yeah, the ones toward the bottom are ones that I really don't know much about, just a couple of songs. One of Gary Jules most famous songs is "Mad World." You might have heard it before. You said you really liked indie-like stuff so you should check out Arctic Monkeys. Here are some of the best individual songs, but I like almost all their stuff. Songs: Nettles Brainstorm Fluorescent Adolescent If You Were There, Beware <- really good 505 I Bet You Look Pretty Good On The Dancefloor A Certain Romance When The Sun Goes Down From The Ritz To The Rubble Riot Van View From The Afternoon Fake Tales of San Fransisco This House Is A Circus You said earlier that you really got into Modest Mouse. I love them, especially their new album. It's so awesome. Which album do you like the best? Do you like their 90's stuff or their 2000's stuff better?

I love all of these artists dearly and though some of them are very unique, they are all talented musicians who are weird and American.
I've heard of everything except for Begushkin and Hasil Adkins. The rest of them I couldn't get into, you know? I think it might be their voices. I like Joanna Newsom's voice and even the lead singer of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, but can't get into Thanksgiving or Bonnie Prince Billy. I'm not sure why either. It's extremely frustrating.

Which Arctic Monkeys album do you suggest I listen to first? I know their last one got a lot of good reviews, but I wasn't sure. I like old, 90's Modest Mouse as opposed to their newer stuff. Favorite album has got to be The Moon and Antarctica. I didn't think Good News or We Were Dead were bad, just not the same Modest Mouse I had grown accustomed to. The new ones are a lot easier to get into and a lot catchier, but the lyrics kind of lack that deep struggle with God that I liked about Isaac's older songs.

I think "Favourite Worst Nightmare" is the catchier ablum. I first heard them on SNL when they first came out with "Whatever People Say About Me, That's What I'm Not." I just recently bought the Moon and Antartica about a month ago. I already had several songs from it, but I wanted the complete thing. I haven't gotten into their older stuff as much, but I haven't have a good chance to see if I like it. I haven't been a long-time fan of MM like other people. I first heard them when my friend burned me "Good News For..." I really liked it, so I guess it the newer stuff that I like cuz it's what I got hooked on. I recently started learning how to play some of their stuff like Dark Center of the Universe, Spitting Venom, Perfect Disguise, Bukowski, 3rd Planet, and The Good Times Are Killing Me.

Maybe something a little more vocally accessible like Peter and the Wolf, Bowerbirds, Horse Feathers, Breathe Owl Breathe, or The National Lights might suit your fancy?
I never hated any of you/I loved you all at the time

Yeasayer's All Hour Cymbals of last year was another album that not many heard, but a large majority of those who did, adored it. A truly great album. ---------------------------------- Employee of the month awards are the opiate of the masses. For the potheadsGang Starr

I'll get that album first then. It might take awhile to get into their older stuff. I suggest you start from their more recent albums, and then work your way backwards. The Moon and Antarctica>Building Nothing Out Of Something>Lonesome Crowded West>This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About. I think going in that order will make it a bit easier.

I know, but I prefer their 90's albums (This is a Long Drive, Lonesome Crowded West, Building Nothing, Fruit that Ate Itself, etc.) as opposed to Good News and We Were Dead. Damn the year 2000!

hey mod i was going through a similar kind of feeling earlier this year, like i'd seen everything that music had to offer as i'd gotten into most of the bigger inde-ish acts. i'd recommend animal collective's strawberry jam if you haven't heard it already. twenty-five seconds into 'peacebone' and those thoughts were cured right up. i've yet to pick up panda bear's album, but i've got high hopes for that one too if it's as good as strawberry jam.

I actually got Strawberry Jam the second it leaked (ended up with a different and very annoying version of Derek. Haha.) I didn't like Strawberry Jam as much as I did Feels, but it was still very good. I think you'll like Person Pitch if you like any of Animal Collective's work. Same guy. It's a lot harder to get into though, but once you're in, you'll listen to the whole album again and again.

I recommend just about anything by Peter Gabriel, especially Up which I've praised before in a different thread. It got criticized for being overlong and murky, but I think the album has a beautiful, otherworldly feel. Also, Sonic Youth? Daydream Nation. That album's incredible.

its not exactly the "same guy". noah lennox (panda bear) is the drummer in animal collective. actually, on strawberry jam he plays a far less active role vocally and in terms of his drumming than on previous releases. avey tare is the one who really propels the album.

Well I haven't seen any mention Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Great album. I'm not entirely sure what all you've listened to but I'll try to list a few bands that have yet to be mentioned. Artist-Album The Avalanches-Since I Left You Au-Au Bowerbirds-Hymns for a Dark Horse Radiohead-Kid A or anything they've ever released. The Real Tuesday Weld - The London Book of the Dead If you're really looking for experimental and somewhat obscure music I'd suggest tiny mix tapes eureka section http://www.tinymixtapes.com/-EUREKA-. Which is albums that the reviewers at tiny mix tape loved which tends to be some sort of avant garde, noise rock, experimental sort of stuff...

I will be sure to check out Peter Gabriel. I have Solsbury Hill already, and I love that song. Haha. I have Daydream Nation, but have only listened to a couple of songs off of it. It's on the long list of albums I need to listen to.

I love Hymns for a Dark Horse and I have The London Book of the Dead on my computer but have yet to listen to it. I'll check out the other albums though. I think I'm looking for a lighter side of experimental. Like, Explosions in the Sky is too loud for me. But Do Make Say Think...K.C. Accidental, I love. Ha, I feel like I'm being difficult to help.

I have some individual songs from those and others like "the fruit that ate itself." I like "Summer" from that. I haven't heard a lot of songs from "Interstate 8," "Sad Sappy Sucker," "Everywhere and His Nasty Parlor Tricks," "Whenever You See Fit," and "Night on the Sun." Do you have all the modest mouse albums? I got an Interpol cd to see if I liked it cuz you said you really liked them at the beginning of the thread. It's pretty good. I haven't listened to the whole thing. It's music kinda reminds me of Arctic Monkeys with a different vocalist.

Yes, I own every Modest Mouse album ever made. And about 3 gigs of live and unreleased stuff. If you like Modest Mouse as much as I do, I think you'd enjoy Ugly Casanova. Isaac Brock is the lead singer, but the instruments are completely different. Check out Turn on the Bright Lights before you check out any of Interpol's stuff. Antics, though still a great album, is just a collection of B-Sides from Turn on the Bright Lights. And Our Love to Admire just wasn't that good in my opinion. I like to imagine that Interpol just picked up where Joy Division left off.
