What a bunch of idea stealin' douchebags. I can't believe Journey's "Seperate Ways" made it on there (See two posts above). No love for "Tainted Love" Pitchfork? Another cool video I forgot about is Wax's "Southern California." It's one of Spike Jonze's first music videos, and is nothing but one slow motion shot of a man running down the street while on fire. Sweet.

I would put down as being "so bad it's good" the video for "Whip It" by Devo. It's absolutely horrible, nonsensical 80s crap. But the absolutely brainless level of absurdity makes it somewhat funny and, as a music video, a cult classic. Plus, what is with their hats??

I love the absurdity of so many early 80s videos. Music videos now take themselves too seriously, and try to be all dark and artsy. That's fine sometimes, but I'd love to see more stuff like "Whip It", "Tainted Love" or Journey's "Seperate Ways" (which I now consider the standard for all awesomely bad music videos).

Sorry, e. While I agree without reservation with your premise, when it comes to awesomely bad, our Bay Area friends cannot lay a glove on: Asia's "Only Time Will Tell" 'cause the only better than Spinal Tap's dwarves running in slow motion is a gymnast jumping over TVs. -and- Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" because the only thing better than the musical excesses of Jim Steinman is the musical excesses of Jim Steinman in video form! If I live to see a Soylent Green-like future, this is what I want playing when I go to the government euthanasia center. Now Playing: "People Hold On" Coldcut The Tommy Boy Story, Vol. 1

That is amazing video. I think the magic is tha just when you think it has gotten as absurd as possible, they come up with something even better. Dancing ninjas...yeah, that's pretty good, but what about football players? Still not enough? Lets finish the whole thing off with a giant loin cloth-wearing dancer/choirboy orgy with Bonnie Tyler. Fantastic. On a different Jim Steinman note, is it true that there is a third bat out of hell coming out in the near future?

Today I saw the video for "Imitation of Life" by R.E.M. and its one of the best I have ever seen. It is set at a big backyard party with dozens and dozens of people doing random actions and having conversations. The clips of all the people are "rewound" and played again and the whole video is done with no clipping, just one camera shot. It is really funny and absolutely amazing. I have no clue how they pulled it off. If you haven't seen it, please do: "Imitation of Life" by R.E.M.

Not best ever, but I like the video for "Move Along" by the All-American Rejects. They flip through different shots of the lead singer standing in the exact same position on the screen, but with different outfits and backgrounds. Then there's a part where he's falling into an empty pool and is caught by a sea of hands, followed by a corny lead-singer-playing-the-piano-while-all-the-other-instruments-suddenly-drop-out-for-a-few-bars part.

Shame on me, klt! I'd happened across the answer to your question and promptly forgot to post it! Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster is Loose is scheduled for release on Halloween. Jim Steinman's not responsible for all of the songwriting chores, but he's there along with vocal arrangements from Todd Rundgren, and guitars from Brian May and Steve Vai. It's longer on big guitars and shorter on the melodicism one might expect from a Steinman/Meat Loaf collaboration (and I'm not even sure Jim wrote it), but I'll still look forward to hearing the album in all its bombastic glory. Sweet. I just replaced my old cassette copy of Bat II, and had it cranked up on the ride home. Looking forward to whatever comes next as long as it's way over the top.

I'm not that crazy about the whole album, but I'm From Barcelona's song "We're From Barcelona" is pretty great, and the music video makes it even better. I just love the totally blank expression on the singer's face the whole time he's singing. (And he bears a peculiar resemblence to former Gonzaga basketball star Adam Morrison.)

I think the video for QOTSA's "Go with the Flow" was pretty cool. It goes along with the whole color scheme of the album, and it just looks interesting. Plus there's that whole part where it looks like they're driving the car between the girls legs...yeah, you get the idea.
Anyone ever see any of Kenna's videos? The two I've seen ("Hell Bent", "Free Time") were both very good. Not the greatest songs, but pretty interesting videos. I think the video for "Hell Bent" was actually made for a different song entirely, and they just edited it to fit his song. Turned out pretty great, anyway.
I'd have to vote for "Just" as the best video ever, but I won't talk about it since it's already been mentioned.

Awesome awesome awesome. My favorite part, though, was at the end when she saw the 'bright eyed' kid who was singing, and she gave this 'look of recognition'. Hahaha!

I saw a claymation video that I think was by them. It was about an alien-ish character who has a door in his chest with a glowing light thing in it. He starts a business and after a while makes it to the top and becomes very successful. Then at the end of the video, he opens up his chest door and the glowing light is gone. Must be symbolic for something. Sound familiar or am I thinking of a different band?

You can see Thom Yorke in this video. He's the guy in the center of the screen with a green shirt and funky hat. There's a closeup of him at 3:42. Or, at least, I heard that's him. I agree, great video.

I'd also check out Belle and Sebastian's "Step into my office" from Dear Catastrophe Waitress...
"Violence, she solved everything"
