True. Although there is some new material on it, Tangents shouldn't qualify and I won't argue the point. It's always nice to meet someone who appreciates what they have done. The Seven Circles was a huge disappointment though and I'm afraid that the creative well may have run dry.

There have been so many great records this decade. I narrowed it down to ten, although my mind probably already changed on a few of them:

1. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
2. Arcade Fire - Funeral
3. Coldplay - X & Y
4. White Stripes - Elephant
5. Brian Wilson - Smile
6. Strokes - Is This It?
7. Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
8. Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine
9. Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans
10. Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism

A few honorable mentions:
Sufjan Stevens - Michigan / Illinois
Radiohead - Kid A
Wilco - A Ghost is Born
Dave Matthews Band - The Lillywhite Sessions (not really an actual album, but miles better than anything else they've ever recorded)

I guess I'm approaching this as "ten albums I'm still in love with from the 00's," as opposed to "the Best Albums of the 00's." Anyway, this is my 10 plus some:

1. The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
2. Badly Drawn Boy - Hour of the Bewilderbeast
3. The Avalanches - Since I Left You
4. Basement Jaxx - Kish Kash
5. The Streets - Original Pirate Material
6. The White Stripes - Elephant
7. Kanye West - The College Dropout
8. The Strokes - Is This IT?
9. Outkast - Stankonia
10. Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise

And here are some others that should be on the list if 10 was comprised of more numerals:
Coldplay - Rush of Blood to the Head
Radiohead - Kid A
Kings of Leon - Youth and Young Manhood
Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Eminem - The Eminem Show
Hard-Fi - Stars of CCTV

1. Endless Summer ~ Fennesz
2. Kid A ~ Radiohead
3. You Forgot It In People ~ Broken Social Scene
4. Discovery ~ Daft Punk
5. The Cold Vein ~ Cannibal Ox
6. A Ghost is Born ~ Wilco
7. Arular ~ M.I.A.
8. Kill the Moonlight ~ Spoon
9. Madvillainy ~ Madvillain
10. Since I Left You ~ The Avalanches

Hon. Mention:
11. Vocalcity ~ Luomo
12. Thunder, Lightning, Strike! [UK Edition] ~ The Go! Team
13. Ágætis Byrjun ~ Sigur Rós
14. Evolution Fight ~ Cyne
15. Is This It? ~ The Strokes

I've made a top 25 list already and a lot of it shifts around but these top 10 are pretty static. The top 5 or so never change, or at least haven't since I made my list.

Furthermore, I don't think Endless Summer will EVER be dethroned - at least not for me. It's so layered and filled with little nuances that every listen reveals something new. I went through a phase where I listened to it in its entirety at least once a day. It's the most organic record I've ever heard. I remember how difficult it was initially listening to it, and then strangely coming back to it for more. Now, it's one of the most indispensible recordings I own.

Oh, and why does everyone like Spoon? I don't want to get too off topic but I never understood their popularity. They just seem really straight forward and bland. I don't see how they could rank.

Just a matter of taste. Personally, I don't see the appeal of any of the artists on your list, with the exception of Arcade Fire and Bonnie Prince Billy.

I only saw Spoon in Eric's list, maybe one other. This hardly constitutes "everyone."

Kill the Moonlight will probably be in my list, if I ever make one.

I think there's still a place in this snobbish circle for the Spoons of the world. Yeah, they're not doing anything too far out there, but on the other hand, they're awesome.

Just curious. I see their name around a lot (maybe not just in this topic) and I've tried to listen to a couple of their cds and didn't do very well. Maybe I'm just ADD. I hope I'm not a snob for not liking Spoon...I'm sure they're nice guys.

To each his own... based on your list you like your music experimental. Actually I think that there's no way you're ADD, it's impossible for me to focus through a Books album. We're all listening to albums of three-minute pop ditties. Spoon just happens to be about as good as it gets at that kind of music.

Actually, from the stories I've heard, Spoon can be pretty hard to deal with. Not the most pleasant people from what I hear.

Interesting list, but some of those are from the 1990s. For example, Crooked Rain, etc. ('94) and Mermaid Avenue ('98)

The b-sides ahead of the main album? I like The Avalanche, but, man, it doesn't compare to Illinois.
