The shortlist of music? This sounded kind of interesting.I noticed it last year and i see that TVOR won it this year.Kinda Cool.

here

Does anybody have an opinion?I would have to look at at the list to see who my pick would have been. Some of the "artists" that get to vote are kind of interesting also.

the final "10" list was

dizzee rascal-boy in da corner
air-talkie walkie
franz ferdinand-s/t
ghostface-the pretty toney album
the killers-hot fuss
loretta lynn-van lear rose
nellie mckay-get away fromme
the streets-a grand dont come for free
TVOR-Desperate Youth...
wilco-a ghost is born

I think from this shorter list i would have picked tvor also.I own all the records except loreeta lynn and nellie mckay.I guess it would be a toss up between franz and tvor.Since that dizzee album is quite old now.

What do you think?

The only two I would have even considered voting for are Loretta Lynn and Wilco, but the edge would have gone to Loretta since I'm such an old fart. I have the TVOR, but there's no comparison with the other two.

If I were voting on the winner out of that list, I'd pick TVotR, but I'd rather write in WOLF EYES MOTHERFUKKKERZZ!

now, i'm not super familiar with all of these albums, but wilco, streets, killers, loretta lynn, dizzee rascal and ghostface did nothing to impress me. i love air and enjoy franz for what they do. i haven't heard nellie mckay.

none of these compare (well, maybe air does) to tvotr to me. it's definitely my favorite of the choices. they make moves that i've not heard, and that's not something i can say for the others. so, shortlist made an excellent choice (although there were obviously some serious omissions here).

Not a bad list or even a surprising list with the exception of Nellie McKay, whose album is terribly overlooked this year.

The list of listmakers is almost more interesting than the list itself.

I ran out and bought my copy of "Get Away From Me" after hearing the marvelous demo version of her song "David".

Same great music, but the commercial CD rendition sounded a lot more......produced.

Here's hoping for a little less studio airbrush on her sophomore release.

Personally, I would've picked Wilco, or maybe FF. I've listened to TVOTR and I didn't like it at all. But I can understand why it was picked. Particularly after they chose Damien Rice (whose album is good but not great) and got clocked for it.

The Killers record is probably too much of a stretch. I enjoy it for what it is, but it's not much more. I certainly wouldn't pick it as one of my year end faves (but I might put "Mr. Brightside" and "Somebody Told Me" on my fave singles list).

The Air record wasn't that hot. I like other Air records considerably more. I find Air a little overrated...I prefer Tahiti 80 as my French band of choice.

Same here...

The band Orwell would probably get my nod for deuxième place.
