For a while now, no song can possibly put me in a better mood than "Purple Bottle" by Animal Collective. If you were a fly on the wall and could watch me in my car singing along to it, you would have me admitted immediately.

"Candylion" by Gruff Rhys. "It sounds just like it [the album cover] looks" which is to say, cutesy and "aww."

The Shins- The Celibate Life: Less than two minutes long, this song is actually my favorite Shins song.
Silver Jews- Random Rules: Does this count? It's just so delicate...
Spiritualized- Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space: The greatest go-to pop song ever. I cannot express how much I love this song. If you've never heard this you need to right now. Epic, Melodic, Subtle, Orchestral. God, It's one of the greatest songs ever!

The LA scene has always been happenin', but especially in the early '80s.

Yeah, I got into all this stuff because of Rhino's "DIY" series from the early 90s. Great, great set of CDs (out of print now, I believe)

"Lo Boob Oscillator" - Stereolab

OR

"Good Morning, Bubblegum" - The Harvey Girls

Pretty much anything with light, airy female vocals and catchy harmonies put me in a good mood.

The Exploding Hearts - I'm a Pretender

This band is awesome, and right now I'd say this is their best song. What a hook in that chorus. Makes you want to shout along.

I'm going to have to agree with that. The whole album is like that. Tragic what happened to the band...
