Number 88-Bob Dylan-Highway 61 Revisited

I don't think anyone will be suprised to see a few Dylan albums on my list. This is just the first one in my list! This album opens with the min dnumbing, sensational Like a rolling stone, which is one of my favourite Dylan tunes of all time, it is just so powerful, and the lyrics reflect society. Dylan has always been a mouthpiece for society and peoples, and this tune really shows of his songwriting ability. It has a very folk rocky track on it too, called desolation row and it also features the blues numbers It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry. It is a cynical, surreal album for of imagery and beauty. Definatlya turning point of Dylans career, and not an album to miss..

Number 87-Alice Cooper-Welcome to my Nightmate

This was Alice Coopers first album as a solo artist, and peopel expected it to be a bad album. Well they were certainly wrong, it was a damn good album!

It has quite a few good tracks on it, and they are varied genres as well.
It has the classic gothic/shock rock Black Widow with Vincent Price (the master of horror film acting..) and the disturbing 'cold ethel' all about necorophilia.

Welcome to my nightmare is obviously a good rock track, and its a track that match's Alice's stage show and persona. However also on this album is the romantic and critically acclaimed 'Only Women bleed' a track that is in a complete different direction to teh majority of Cooper stuff.

Department of youth is a strange track to. But you;ve got to love the line 'who gave it to you?' 'Donny Osmond?' WHAT??'

Then were back on track with Steven, a hauntingly but yet I guess erriely beautiful track.

Defiantly an album to buy. One of my favs'. well wort a listen. It's a mix of shock rock, glam rock, hard rock, pop and romance. Go buy now@!

I'm strangely ingrigued by your list JJF. Not that I'm agreeing with it or even disagreeing with it. Its been pretty interesting so far. Motley Crue to Meatloaf to Dylan and then back to Alice Cooper. I think everyone has read a billion lists that look about the same and this one is refreshing. Everyone always finishes with OK Computer, Revolver, Pet Sounds, Blonde on Blonde, Exile, etc... They're all the same. I'm interested to see where your's goes.

Now he's gonna change his just to satisfy your expectations!!!

And you forgot to mention NMH's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (my #1 actually, though it's always in a bloody, vicious battle with the Notwist's Neon Golden for the spot).

Number 86- Billy Joel- An Innocent Man.

This album is a strange album for Billy Joel, it's a lot more poppy and loose than it's predecessors, but it still keeps Joel's imaginative and haunting lyrics, but just puts them ina much more open and more easily accesible form to the majority of listners. Of course this album spawned perhaps his most famous hit (even though I hate it) Uptown Girl. It also has the amazing song 'Innocent man' upon it, and ts a great song to see performed live, Billy clicks along with it, and gets the audience to join in.Also includes the soulful 'tell her about it' and 'longest time.' It's a good album and closes Billy Joels golden period of album making, not his best (which will be mentioned later on of course!) but definatly still an album well worth a listen. It definatly reach's out to a wider target market, and fans of pop will probaly enjoy it a lot more than some of his earlier stuff. It's just a catchy album..

Number 85-Nazereth- Hair of The Dog

See, I like to keep people guessing what genres coming up next. Who would expect Billy joel to be followed by the Hard rockers Nazareth?

I know, I know I have weird taste, i call it eclectic.

This album is amazing though, it features several good songs 'hair of the dog' 'Miss misery' 'rose in the heather and the amazing cover of The Everly brothers 'Love Hurts'

It's mainly a gritty, bluesy, hard rock album, with kick ass guitaring and angry vocals. It experiments slightly in such tunes as Miss Misery which echoes some Sabbath riffs, but generally it's hard hittting and soul shaking.

if you appreciate good hard rock, check this one out!

Number 84-Travis-The Man Who

The album that came before Invisable band was the Man Who. This album is cynical, witty, and moving. It's sentimental and beautiful. Of course everyoen has heard of 'Why does it always rain on me' and rightfully so. It's a lyrically good song, and has a good ryhthm and tune to it. And driftwood to me is Travis best song, it is just beatufiul. It's soft and subtle, but it's a good tune. But all the tunes are well written lyrically 'waiting to meet you' and 'turn' are another two solid and beautiful songs. It's a charming album. It may be pop, but its charming and well worth a listen.

Number 83-the Pretenders-Learning to Crawl

The Pretenders re-formed to create this album, and it is is an album where the band get to grip with a new formation, and tackle serious issues such as death and depression. '2000 miles' is just about the only rock christmas to work ever, and 'back on the chain gang' is a moving tribute to james honeyman scott who passedaway earlier. Middle of the road is brave biographical song about their own music. Plus on this album there is the tune 'there's a thin line between love and hate' which is a lyricall great song. Its one of the best rock n roll albusm of the 80's without a doubt. It's a much more mature album by the Pretenders and its works like a treat. it's definatly a touching album!

Number 82-Blondie-Parrallel Lines

Blondie changed their direction from new wave to pop on their third album- parrellel lines. Blondie got a few number one hits from this album, and it was the bands songwriting on this album that really launched them as an international hit. This album has a lot of depth and consistancey on it. It has the hits 'Heart of Glass,' 'hanging on the telephone' 'one way or another' and of course 'sunday girl.' Most albums only have one or two great pop classics upon them, but Blondie graced us with 4! And it's not just the singles that are good either. Just go away and fade away and radiatate are two more well written and catchy pop tunes. They may not of been singles but probaly could of been. I don't know about any one else, but i love Debra harry and Blondie, I just think they have style and sophistication and coudl write such timeless classics such as Sunday girl and One way or another, that has famously been covered. That I suppose is one sign of great songwriting and a great song-the fact that other artists want to cover your work. And why not cover Blondie? Not many people would be able to write the masterpiece of Parrellal Lines that's for sure.

I'm a huge fan of The Man Who. Slide Show is such an amazing song, and I love the hidden tracks. I really wish they would record more tunes like the first hidden track that's heavier.

I found a used copy of The Invisible Band, and thought that was surprisingly solid. I should pick up The Man Who.

I agree. So far, its a non-cliched, relatively diverse, yet rock-centric list.

I didn't say "rockist"....

I bought Invisible Band when it came out based on the strength of The Man Who and was a little disappointed. About half of it is really good, and the other half, heh. Any indie/Brit-pop fans who've avoided Travis thinking they just like Keane or some other sappy Britpop band, they should give The Man Who a chance. Its really good, with extremely solid songwriting.

Number 81- Baby Shambles-Down In Albion

Now, Baby Shambles are one of my favourite bands but I like the majority of Doherty fanboys realise that although a good band, theyre not the best thing ever. Theyre album really is good though, I know a lot of people dislike it, even though they like Libertines stuff. I personally though believe that Down In Albion is a great album, because of the mix of genres and the experimentation on it. Again produced by Mick Jones, it retains the roughness of Up The Bracket and Libertines, but apart from that it goes in a different musical direction. Apart from the ridiculous track of 'Pentoville' by the General, I like all the tracks on the album. Fuck Forever is a good rock anthem and Killamangiro likewise is a good tune. However, i think Pipedown could of also been released as a single, and would of done relativly well as it's an unbeat, catchy rock/indie track. But also on this album is the 32nd of December which sounds almost like the Who or other early rock bands, and 'In love with a feeling' which is again a catchy but a much more downbeat indie tune. Albion should of been released as a single, because it's lyrically really well written and again has a quite catchy chorus.
Well wortha listen. Don't write it off just because of the medias bad portrayal of pete Doherty!

Number 80-Bryan Adams- Cut's like a knife.

i am a huge fan of Bryan Adam's and his almost flawless pop rock tunes and power ballads. This album was released in 1982 and it paved the way for Bryan Adams to become a mega star. It's tunes include 'Straight from the heart' 'cuts like a knife' and 'i'm ready' The ~Only One and This time start the album off with mid paced rock numberes with catchy chorus and lyrics. Straight from the heart is the first but not the last of Bryan Adams romantic ballads, and Cuts like a knife is a great rock/pop hit as well..

Definatly a good album, and definatly an album that is crammed full of catchy lyrics, riffs and mid beat arena rock tunes. Bryan Adams may be a bit corny but his music is just great to listen to, and ive always enjoyed his ballads, because he is a good singer/songwriter and his songs just get you hooked. This album is one of many finee records that Bryan Adams has produced.
