I realize I'm dating myself here, but my first favorite band was Kiss in the mid-70's. Later, I made a fairly drastic shift to the Beatles, then during the high school years, Rush was my thing.

Being a huge Rush fan eventually turned me on to their prog predecessors, and the one band I really got into was Emerson, Lake & Palmer. They would be the prime example of the band that would fit into this discussion for me.

There are a few albums I could still listen to, but would probably have to skip over a few tracks to make it through. Trilogy and their self-titled debut come to mind first...also Brain Salad Surgery. But, at one time, I thought Tarkus was their magnum opus, and I have to say that I now consider it to be a borderline over-indulgent piece of crap. I still might get a nostalgic feeling listening to it, though.
