I think a lot of people thought this was one of the worst tracks on Hail to the Thief, but I too think it is a really good song. I love that weird screeching at the end of the song, and the bass line is priceless.

A song I've loved for a while that nobody seems to mention that often.

I would really need my ipod with me to make an accurate list (bound to forget one or two going from memory), but I feel pretty strongly about the following five:

1) Arcade Fire-Tunnels
2) Wolf Parade-I'll Believe in Anything
3) Bob Dylan-Thunder on the Mountain
4) CYHSY-Momma Won't You Keep Them Castles...
5) Queens of the Stone Age-A Song for the Dead

I never get tired of it. It's just a sonically appealing song. I'm not a big fan of Hail To The Thief as a whole. Most of the songs sound better in my mind than they do when I actually listen to them. I also like "There, There" and "Go To Sleep" pretty well.

I shouted out the names, and as I did so, for each song I raised a finger. "Listen", I told her. "Listen and learn..."

Ryan Adams "New York, New York" ( a tad over 5 yrs old)
British Sea Power "Apologies to insect life"
Dr. Octagon "Ants"
Candi Staton "I'll sing a love song for you"
Mudhoney "Endless Yesterday"

She threw her head back, laughing. "Fuck off, they're not the best songs from the last 5 years"
I pursed my lips; lowered my chin. "They are today, honey".

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.
