I like all these I own or else I'd have sold them by now. I do see a few I sold back among both lists. Many of the my personal favorite albums during the years of these lists weren't reviewed by Metacritic.
I must hate what critics like. I only own 4 of the top 200, and i have a load of cds (of course, I don't own TOO many from the past 5 years, but I have a fair amount). 1-50: 1 (Queens of the Stone Age - SFTD) 51-100: 0 101-150: 3 (Mogwai - HSFHP, Trail of the Dead - ST&C, Radiohead - HTTT 151-200: 0
I also have four from the worst list. Run DMC - Crown Royal; pretty average in my opinion. Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Shit yada yada; What do ya want? I bought it in grade 7 for 4 bucks and was anable to sell it at a used cd store 2 years later because they "had too many already". Haha. Helmet - Size Matters; mindless, not as good as their early efforts, but still good. 311 - DTOM; has some great material on it. Except for Frolic Room.
Hadn't noticed STUDIO 150 got such a lousy Metacritic score. I thought it was Weller's best album since Stanley Road- with the possible exception of the new one. Ah, the critics have always hated his solo stuff.
Worst 100: I own one - Godsmack - "Faceless". It's extremely mediocre and I've probably only listened to it 5 times or less. I doubt it was truly one of the worst 100 though.
By my count, I have 10 of the Top 200 albums (Dizzee Rascal's Boy in da Corner, Outkast's Speakerboxx/The Love Below, Sufjan Stevens' Iliinois, the Arcade Fire's Funeral, the Avalanches' Since I Left You, Antony and the Johnsons' I am a Bird Now, Franz Ferdianand's self-titled, Radiohead's Hail to the Thief, and the Flaming Lips' Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and The Soft Bulletin).
I don't own any of the Bottom 100 records, as I'm not lame like that.
Top 200: 69 owned, 1 formerly owned and sold (Sung Tongs)
Bottom 100: 1 owned, 2 formerly owned and sold.
The one I still own I used to like a lot when it came out and now I think is 'Okay'. The other two I think are 'Okay'. These three are Eve 6, Matchbox Twenty, and Cake.
Of course, I bet like 75% of the stuff I bought between 1995 and 2000 would be in the 'yellow' range if Metacritic covered back then. It wasn't till I started listening to classic rock in 2001 that I figured out all the stuff I liked was crap.
I have some albums on the top 200. But I can just say that I have Liz Phair's s/t and I like it. It is, however, the only album I have on the bottom 100. And it's not bad.
I looked over the current list, and have new counts:
1--50: 9 51-100: 13 101-150: 15 151-200: 8
45 out the top 200. I only include records that I still own...I've traded in a lot of stuff that I've accumulated over the last 3 years that I just don't like, many of them in the top 200 (Arcade Fire, White Stripes, Devendra Banhart, Wolf Parade, Broken Social Scene).
I proudly own 8 of the 100 worst. Most shocking to me was that The Ordinary Boys' Brassbound is presently the 52nd worst ranked album on the site. It's a top 5 for my 2005 list.
69 From the Top 200: 1-50: 26 51-100: 17 101-150: 14 151-200: 12
Four from the bottom 100: Eve 6, Weezer, The Vines, and the Mooney Suzuki. I kind of like the Eve 6 as a (very) guilty pleasure, the others are bad but have a couple of strong tracks that keep them from being completely worthless. Mooney Suzuki is probably the worst out of those four.
I own 43 total of the best 200. 1-50: 16 51-100: 13 101-150: 9 151-200: 5
And I don't own any of the 100 worst. Although i am still shocked that Weezer's newest album was such a bomb, does anybody own it and think that it is great or at least good because the critics sure don't seem to think so.
I (thankfully) don't own any of the bottom 100, but I must admit that I've spent some time listening to Duke Lion Fights The Terror!! by Big Dumb Face. Not sure why, but I kind of find this album entertaining.
