Awesome list! "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" is my fave and ditto Rocket to Russia, but I basically think all the songs on the first four albums qualify as "the top". Cool

"Naked Woman, Naked Man
Where did you get that nice sun tan?"

Thanks Smiler

With the Ramones, most people (including myself) love the early stuff. However, I'd champion "I Believe In Miracles" as a very cool late-period Ramones track. I remember loving that song when it was released in the late 80s. Pearl Jam has made their cover of it a staple in their live shows.

Also for your consideration: "Merry Christmas (I Don't Wanna Fight Tonight)". Best Christmas song. Ever.

Agreed Blossom. You quoted my favorite line (out of about 20 brilliant ones) from Mississippi, by the way! I have a bad habit of adding this song to my itunes playlist when I go running, then almost having to stop every damn time after the tears start welling up.

I've shed tears over those lines too, sunset . . . maybe enough to overflow the Mississippi. Thanks for "sail[ing] with me." Wink

We've had 3 Modest Mouse lists now, and no one's mentioned one of my favorite songs from TM&A, "Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes".

I forgot! That would have been inbetween 10 and 11 but it's too much work to change it now.

Since his oeuvre is relatively small, I'm doing just a top five for Nick Drake:

  • Magic
  • Things Behind the Sun
  • Northern Sky
  • At the Chime of a City Clock
  • Day Is Done

(P.S.: It is actually painful to make a short list for Nick, such is my love for every song he recorded.)
