This horrific version is not anywhere near a B-side. This is actually a cover of the classic Fleetwood Mac song that was wriiten by Stevie Nicks. Do yourself a favor and listen to the original; Billy Corgan's reedy and girly voice does it no justice. Also, "Girl Named Sandoz" is a cover of the Animals original.

Yes, while a collection of b-sides this was a fertile time for Smashing Pumpkins and this holds up well as anything on Gish and Siamese Dream. My favorite songs from Pisces Iscariot include: Landslide Dolly Vita (More ballad than rocker) Frail and Bedazzeled Hello Kitty Kat Plume Blue Pissant
It's worth it for the 11-minute "Starla" alone. The rest is pretty good as well.

Back when I owned Pisces Iscariot, this was my favorite track. I thought it was an interesting choice for a cover. Not many people are familiar with the original version.

Good call with "Soma". I admit that I tend not to like long pop songs, I think this goes back to making mix tapes where putting on one long song would mean leaving off two shorter songs. So I tend to this day to think of "The top 80 minutes of music" which always leaves me 10 minutes short since I grew up on 90 minute tapes...

I owned 'Pisces Iscariot' for a while before transferring it to my computer, and I never knew 'Girl Named Sandoz' was originally an Animals tune. Guess you learn something new every day. It was probably noted in teh liner notes and I never saw it Top 10 Death Cab For Cutie (in no particular order): I Was a Kaleidoscope (The Photo Album) Bend To Squares (Something About Airplanes) Expo '86 (Transatlanticism) Company Calls Epilogue (alternate) (The Forbidden Love EP) 405 (We Have The Facts and We're Voting Yes) Death of an Interior Designer (Transatlanticism) Title Track (We Have The Facts and We're Voting Yes) Title and Registration (Transatlanticism) Your Heart is an Empty Room (Plans) Song for Kelly Huckaby (The Forbidden Love EP) Not a definitive list by any means, but hopefully a representative sample.

I think my favorite Andrew Bird song is "Masterfade." I just love that part where he goes "the sky's ful of zeroes and ones" with the 'one' all strung out and fluctuating. Wasn't he in a band called Squirrel Nut Zippers? I've heard they sucked.

Once again, you'd be wrong...about the "sucked" part. I'd take the Squirrel Nut Zippers' "Hell" over any song Andrew Bird's released as a solo artist.

Actually, I'd once again be right. I most definitely heard that they sucked.

I'm not, but again you're taking the word of others as opposed to checking out an artist for yourself. I find that funny (funny strange, not funny ha-ha). If you're curious about the band Andrew Bird was formerly in, go sample a track. Don't just say, "I heard they sucked." Are you interested in music or not? For future reference, I will continue to mock you every time you refer to a band, genre, or musical era without any firsthand knowledge of it.

Who said I was taking the word of others? It's very simple, eric. I merely commented that I had heard somewhere that the Squirrel Nut Zippers were not good, thinking that maybe it would entice some comments from someone with some knowledge of their music. I never said I think they suck. Stop reading malevolent intentions into everything people say. Sheesh.

If that was truly your intention, why not post something along the lines of "I heard Andrew Bird was in a band called Squirrel Nut Zippers. Is anyone familiar with their stuff?," instead of starting with a negative comment you heard about them. I read a lot of negative comments about various bands on this board. I find most of them to be bullshit. Check stuff out for yourself.

Yes, message to everyone: never say anything bad about a band. You might hurt one of their fan's feelings. Only positive comments are allowed.

That's not what I'm saying. I just think it's stupid to reiterate a negative comment someone else made about a band, when you yourself have no knowledge of this band. If I put stock in every negative comment I read about a band on this board, it's unlikely I'd like anything. Don't believe the hype and for everyone's sake, don't spread the hype. Check stuff out for yourself. Can I make my point any clearer?

You may be right about that last part Mike, but I would like to say once more that I'm not so much coming down on people who make negative comments as I am on people who blindly buy into those comments. I started getting into music before the internet, so if something piqued my interest, such as the prior work of an artist I liked, I'd just find it, listen to it, and make up my own mind about it. I find it odd that people today (I'm not singling out RL here) are so eager to let other people inform their decisions about what music not to seek out. It's especially baffling since music is so easy to come by now. In the time we argued about it, RL could've downloaded a SNZ song, listened to it and actually known whether it was something he was interested in or not.

But then we could not have had this discourse.
