Ramones Vs. AFI is even a contest? I mean, I actually like AFI, but, come on. They're The Ramones! We need to get more people to vote Ramones, lest the unthinkable happens...
I equally can't believe The Ramones are even bothered slightly by AFI....must be a bloody young audience voting.
I actually voted for Wonder ahead of Hendrix cos Stevie is a better songwriter, and while not the genius on one instrument like Jimi, he is able to play anything and play it well. Wonder's run of '70's albums are the equal of Hendrix's great run; emotionally I care about Stevie a little more, and he possesses more variety than Jimi.
Another match up I found difficult was Depeche Mode vs. the Beasties...very difficult to separate, but I went with the Mode for showing more emotional variety, and having longer staying power.
Stones vs. Lennon solo. Too easy..Stones by a mile.
Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been, Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene; As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be, So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.
It seems pretty clear to me, from looking at the results, that most of the people who voted are either: a) ironic hipsters, b) people who hate music, or c) dumber than a freaking rock.
Those are the only choices that I will admit.

I voted for Stevie Wonder as well and my basis for that is perfectly stated here by Mark. Great job!

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Where is that head-shaking emoticon that ericg75 was supposed to invent?
Ah, what's life without some disappointments my young friend?

I voted for Depeche Mode too, but it's hard to contend that the Beasties haven't had staying power or emotional variety, for that matter. They went from NY hardcore to jokester rap to serious jazz-revisionists to protest-rap and have been making music about the same amount of time as DM-- not quite as prolific though.

Oh yeah max jack, don't get me wrong. I was saying that the Mode have more emotional variety than the Beasties, not that the Boys have none. I love the BB's.
Equally, my only thought on staying power, longetivity etc. is that the Mode have been more prolific and produced consistently good albums from day 1 till today, somewhat more than the Beasties. I give the edge to the Brits as a reward for giving me more music. The Beasties have made essential albums. Canonical stuff.
Its an odd match up tho'!

I'm glad I never even checked the site then. The Ramones kick just about everybody's ass. Maybe 10 bands sneak away from that, if they're lucky and appreciated. Oh well, don't waste your time!!
"Naked Woman, Naked Man Where did you get that nice sun tan?"
These polls have two purposes; to piss metacritics off and to represent mass public opinion. If nothing else, my taste in music is more secure than ever knowing there are so many meatheads out there who would vote in that manner.
PS. Blender recently did a rock music - Field of 64 in response to March Madness. While it had the awful likes of Eminem and Good Charlotte, Pink Floyd didn't even make the final cut. I have to assume two things then...
1. Whoever created this is looking for popular opinion and had no business excluding the Floyd. 2. Pink Floyd surely won the rock music NIT which didn't make the magazine due to the ink shortage of 2007.
Yeah, how did AFI get on the Sweet Sixteen of a favorite bands competition? Is there some angst-ridden goth/emo kid voting for them 1000 times? Wait...that might be considered conforming.
I wouldn't expect my fav. band Tool to be that high in the rankings, but they've got to be better than AFI. Also, I've never been a huge fan of Dave Matthews Band or Pearl Jam, though they clearly have plenty of talent and success. Other than that, nice Sweet Sixteen.

So, Duke....ya don't feel the Wonder?...or do you just prefer a bit of Spanish castle magic?.....

I can't believe it. I thought that maybe they really were better than the Ramones.

But ya gotta get Fullfillingness' First Finale...you don't like that...I'm committing hari-kari....

But hold on, let's not do anything rash. Put that tantō down and keep your hands where I can see them. I didn't mean for any of this to happen, honest.
