Believe me, he's been getting some play. The only problem is I have to skip some of the songs because I put them on mixes for her (she loved Elliott) and now the songs are ruined for me. It sucks.

Man, when i get low i like listening to something that'll take my mind off of the situation. Basically any old soul is good, Al green, Delphonics, Major Lance, so on and on. Only song that ever made me cry in my life, was Wilco's "Far, Far Away", in fact the whole being there album was definitley more heart-felt to me than anything by Beck. Other depressing songs.. Billy Joel's "Captain Jack",George Benson's " Gimme' the Night", and Huey Lewis & the News' "Heart and Soul" peace...

Yeah it's funny how a girl can hijack some of your favorite songs. Yet, there's always that masochistic part of me that makes me want to listen to them anyway. Or maybe it's just because I want them back for myself. --but they'll always be hers. That's life I guess.

Wallow in The Cure's "Disintegration" album. Or if you're REALLY suicidal - "Pornography."

Oh god, the cure, how is that not one of the first bands that popped into my head?

I've been playin the Grinderman album an awful lot because it's amazing, hilarious, and my ex hated the vulgarity and subject-matter.

Actually their Sparkle And Fade record is pretty decent. Pretty well everything they did before and after wasn't all that great, but for that one record they did well for themselves.

Yeah, that was a great CD.

Heroin Girl, Santa Monica, My Sexual Life, etc. All around good album.

I've been a fan of that album for years. When people think of Everclear they're inclined to remember So Much For The Afterglow moreso then Sparkle And Fade. By all rights they were bound to be a one-hit-wonder after "Santa Monica", and it honestly would've been better for their reputation if they had remained that. Changing their sound may have yielded more hits, but the general opinion of Everclear is probably much more negative as a result.

Everclear is a greatest hits band for me. I never got into any particular album, but I love the greatest hits.

Thank god I haven't had a girlfriend in a long time. I'd hate for some of my favorite songs to be ruined.

Then again, I hate being alone for a long time, so... damn.

I'm married, so if I'm ever single again I'll probably have to throw out my entire album collection and start listening to country, I guess.

Apropos of that.

Do you think, Nick Hornby style, that a potential mate has to have compatible taste in music for the relationship to stick?

Years ago, I would have thought that it was definitely the case. My wife, (happily married now for 15 years Smiler) has no musical taste. Not bad musical taste, but no musical taste. Music doesn't really interest her. If I have something on, she'll kind of listen and say, "Oh, that's a nice song," but she doesn't really care about it in any substantive way.

I don't think people need to have similiar taste to be compatible at all. My wife likes some of the music I like, but she also likes a lot of stuff I don't care for. I like way more stuff that she doesn't, though. But, as Rob Fleming learns, that really isn't all that important in the scheme of a relationship.

I thought I'd add the entire Violent Femmes s/t album to this list. I'm not sure how it wasn't mentioned until now... I put it on randomly today and was blown away how much the lyrics pertained to my situation.
