I'm a huge fan of MusicIP, and I've had this "game" rattling around in my cranium for a long time now. I'll lead off with a song from one of my favorite albums so far (and the following MIP settings):

Settings
Mix Style = 150 (200=strictly like the artist)
Mix Variety = 3 (0=less; 9=more)

1. "Bye Bye Bye" from Parc Avenue by Plants and Animals
2. "Station Grey" from Like, Love, Lust & The Open Halls of the Soul by Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter
3. "Hjartao Hamast" from Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros
4. "When You Wake For Certain" from Imagine Our Love by Lavender Diamond
5. "Creeping Coastline of Lights" from I'll Take Care of You by Mark Lanegan
6. "Sweetness Follows" from Automatic for the People by R.E.M.
7. "13 Months in 6 Minutes" from The Meadowlands by The Wrens
8. "Gideon" from Z by My Morning Jacket
9. "Bullet" from A Hundred Times or More by Phosphorescent
10. "Challengers" from Challengers by The New Pornographers

To play the game, find a song that you have in your mp3 library from the above list, and create your own MusicIP mix based on that song. Then, post your list. The fun of the game is too see how divergent the lists become, and also to learn about new music that sounds like music you already like. Ok, let the game begin...

I must be getting old... I have absolutely no idea what's going on here. Finally, middle-age has crept in, and youth culture has me beaten. I'm officially out of touch. This is depressing.

Nice list, mind.

I'm 32 - not exactly a teenager.

Anyway, MusicIP is like Pandora, except it analyzes the songs in your mp3 library. It allows you to then create mixes that are sonically similar to a song/album/artist that you choose. It's very useful either as a standalone program, or combined with a music streaming device like the Squeezebox. It's free, so I'd advise anyone not familiar to check it out (and then maybe contribute to this thread, of course).

Edit: I've changed the game so it's a little more challenging - and more like a cyber-version of the Song Tag game.

Just click on the MusicIP site, and check it out. It's not brain surgery.

I used 13 Months in 6 Minutes by The Wrens and got:

"Bang Your Drum" by Wolf Parade
"Hoofs" by Why?
"Goode's Field Road" by Drive By Truckers
"Sons and Daughters" by the Decemberists
"Same" by Snow Patrol
"Introducing Angels" by Destroyer
"Blackout" by British Sea Power
"I Was a Landscape in Your Dream" by Of Montreal
"Soveriegn" by The Duke Spirit
"K-Hole" by the Silver Jews
and
"Bastards of Light" by Black Mountain

A pretty neat program ez, thanks for pointing us towards it!

Nice! Yeah, MusicIP really changed the way I listen to music. When you've got over 12,000 songs, it just becomes so hard to decide what to listen to. MIP does the work for me.
