if the sky were to open up there would be no rule, no law. only you and your memories.

Pretty much all side B of 'Blue' by Joni Mitchell, in particular the last three songs 'River', 'A Case Of You' and 'The Last Time I Saw Richard'. Joni's got her critics but by Jesus she traces the arc of love's last swallowdive in its full gory glory here. And remarkably little sentiment.

Love all those songs, especially Pour Le Monde and People Are Like Suns. Neil Finn's voice goes great with emotional turns of the guitar and keyboards...one of the best songwriters ever!!

There's a lot of emotion in that album.

Yeah, that did it for me as well (not to mention that there’s a lot of emotion inside of me as well.)

I listened to that album again the other day too. I had been thinking maybe I overrated it, but nope. I'm back to putting it in my Top 10.

I'll have to give it more listens, but I wasn't completely bowled over. I like it but I think it won't grow on me enough to get in my top 20 before the year ends.

The Stills "Yesterday Never Tomorrows" really gets me. Rather a simple song.

"more sex,
more goodbyes
i love you and i
won't let myself let you go

some things last forever
why can't this last forever?
nothing lasts forever
i hope this lasts forever, oh"

The first time I heard Two-Headed Boy Pt.2 I actually cried. Radiohead's Pyramid Song can make me cry if I'm thinking about death.

Last night, falling asleep with just my walkman and amazing headphones: "Foam Hands" and "Shooting Rockets (From the Desk of the Night's Ape)" off the new Destroyer album. I'm not sure why, something about the music and the way he sings, such beautiful music. I didn't think it would make affect me, so much, on two separate instances.

I know, I'm a wimp.

They may be cliche, but "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues and "Do You Realize??" by the Flaming Lips both get me to tear up at times.

Windowstill - The Arcade Fire

"The windows are locked now, so what'll it be? A house on fire or a rising sea!?"

Lives - Modest Mouse

"Well, you were the dull sound of sharp math when you were alive. No one's gonna play the harp when you die."

Two Suns in the Sunset - Pink Floyd

"And you'll hear their voices, and you'll never see their faces. You have no recourse to the law anymore."

Clowne Towne - Xiu Xiu

"Your true father smashed his hands through the glass, And failed out of the priviledged life of his dream. Your true love has drunk herself into not being able to pay her rent, Or keeping her own word to her own self. Your true brother has betrayed you over and over, and looked you in the eye. Your true self has become weak and alone and annoying, a true ridiculous dumb-ass."

Yes! Thank you for mentioning Nick Drake. Pink Moon...man that entire album is like that. My top one would definitely be "Place to Be", and second would be (oddly enough) "In McDonalds" by Burial. The piano in that kills me every time... It doesn't bring tears, but "Cherry Tree" by The National has that same mood for me.

I think Kate Bush and Television Personalities are the only ones to make me cry from listening to them on cd. I tear up quite easily at good concerts though.
