Question:
Here is the one for 2002, which with along with the 2000 year, might be the best year for music in the 00’s—in my eyes. The top five albums were monumental releases and there was a lot of other greats. The poll has my top 5, pick one and feel free to say why, comments on my list and any you feel were left out.

1. Beck – Sea Change
2. Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
3. The Roots – Phrenology
4. Interpol – Turn On the Bright Lights
5. Queens of the Stone Age – Songs for the Deaf
6. Bright Eyes – Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground
7. Eminem – The Eminem Show
8. The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
9. Weezer - Maladroit
10. Sigur Ros- ( )
11. Talib Kweli- Quality
12. Norah Jones- Come Away With Me
13. Common- Electric Circus
14. The Streets – Original Pirate Material
15. The Polyphonic Spree – The Beginning Stages Of…

Choices:
Beck – Sea Change
Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
The Roots – Phrenology
Interpol – Turn On the Bright Lights
Queens of the Stone Age – Songs for the Deaf

This was a pretty good year for music. I have a tough time deciding between Wilco and Interpol. I'd probably give the edge to Wilco slightly, just because I think YHF has more staying power. I'd also put Spoon's "Kill the Moonlight" as a strong contender. My vote for underrated album of the year goes to Reigning Sound's "Time Bomb High School", a little-heard garage rock masterpiece.

Other Great 2002 Albums:

Sleater-Kinney: One Beat
Coldplay: A Rush of Blood to the Head
Spoon: Kill the Moonlight
Neko Case: Blacklisted
Paul Westerberg: Stereo/Mono
The Walkmen: Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone
Hot Hot Heat: Make Up the Breakdown
Reigning Sound: Time Bomb High School

Same here:

I know that there has to be some new people and also old people that would like to shar their lists of the top albums of 2002 or even mention an album or two.

My personal list has changed quite a bit, so I will need to re-post it. Personally, I love these kind of lists because it gives us a chance to debate some choices and also find new stuff that we have't heard.

This is a tough one between Interpol and Queens for me. Both albums are extremely good, but I've gotta give the edge to Interpol by just a bit.

Other great ones not on the poll:

The Streets - Original Pirate Material
Trail of Dead - Source Tags and Codes
Liars - They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top

I guess I've never given it a retrospective, but '02 was a pretty solid year really. A lot of good stuff.

01. Interpol: Turn on the Bright Lights
02. Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

These two are probably interchangeable in position, depending on my mood, and both are a notch above the rest of the 2002 releases.

03. Trail of Dead: Source Tags & Codes
04. Spoon: Kill the Moonlight
05. The Flaming Lips: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
06. The Streets: Original Pirate Material
07. 2 Many DJs: Radio Soulwax, Volume II
08. The Books: Thought for Food
09. Sleater-Kinney: One Beat
10. Boards of Canada: Geogaddi

I made this list up a long time ago, haha.

I would still contend that 2002 was a spectacular year. This has also changed a ton and I think that all of the albums are "top five" quality but I can't stick sixteen albums in five slots. Nothing can touch the top album for me though.

1. Beck – Sea Change
2. Spoon – Kill the Moonlight
3. Interpol – Turn on the Bright Lights
4. Bright Eyes – Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground
5. Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
6. The Roots – Phrenology
7. Tom Waits – Alice
8. Broken Social Scene – You Forgot it in the People
9. The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
10. Talib Kweli – Quality
11. Eminem – The Eminem Show
12. Queens of the Stone Age – Songs for the Deaf
13. Weezer – Maladroit
14. Sigur Ros – ( )
15. Tom Waits – Blood Money
16. Common – Electric Circus

Does anyone go through a stage of musical ignorance for awhile? I had a deep interest from 1993-1999 then from 2003, i seem to have been not at all intersested in those years in-between, i own hardly any albums from that period. I may have to start to revisit after reading these posts.
