Cool, Chamberk. I just started collecting some vinyl recently. I've got about 30 records. I'm not quite sure that I see this vast difference in quality that people talk about with vinyl, but I like it because it feels like a more active listening experience - putting a 12" disc onto a turntable, being forced to pay attention to flip it, having the large imagery of the sleeve, etc.
Well, I finally got my order. However, it required me to actually go to the store to get it! I was in Chicago picking my brother up, so I swung by on the way out. Walked away with:
Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps Talking Heads - '77 Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bayou Country The Jam - All Mod Cons XTC - Skylarking David Bowie - Lodger Kate Bush - Hounds of Love The The - Soul Mining
Two v/a comps on Mississippi Records- I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore 1927-1948 (blues, jazz, gospel, cajun) and Life Is A Problem (raw gospel tracks from '46-'76).
i bought one last month. cost me 250Euros, a pretty basic Project. although i didn't notice a drastic difference in sound, albeit perhaps a bit, i have developped a new pleasure in listening to music on vinyl because of having to switch sides, listening to an album i already knew differently because now it has two sides rather than one continuous play, etc... its been a good investment for me because i enjoy the listening experience it procurs
Mix a little folly with your plans: It is sweet to be silly at the right moment.
One important thing to remember is that you can often find used vinyl for much cheaper then CDs. So even though it takes some investment at first, it can actually save you money in the end.
I binged in anticipation of bday moolah rolling in next week:
old/original stuff: Bobby Darin - Inside Out The Mighty Mighty - Tams Tams Tams Tams Isaac Hayes - Black Moses (the fold-out cover is spectacular - definitely going on the wall of my new place) the Cure - the Head on the Door Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll Pete Shelley - Homosapien Giorgio (Moroder) - E=MC2 (I also recently picked up Knights in White Satin - I love that guy) the Buggles - Adventures in Modern Recording Dexy's Midnight Runners - Too-Rye-Ay The Masked Marauders - s.t.
New/Reissue: Lee Perry - Super Ape Nigeria Disco-Funk Special: The Underground Lagos Dancefloor 1974-79 (Soundway)]
Oh, also my gf's dad let me raid his collection cos he doesn't listen to them anymore. There were too many to list, some of which weren't so hot, but it did include some gems like Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, the Band, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly Soundtrack, Roberta Flack, etc.

Wow, you got some pretty good stuff--you were pretty lucky to find all of that at one place. I own 4 of those on vinyl--The Cure, Pete Shelley, The Buggles, and Dexy's Midnight Runners. Of course I'm sure you already know that Tricky and Portishead sampled Ike's Rap IV from Black Moses for "Hell Is Around the Corner" and "Glory Box," respectively.

I was unaware of that also. Thanks for the tidbit! I really enjoy hearing about the sources of samples in songs.
