The strange thing is that I swear we had "The Glow" Pt. 2 (by The Microphones) in our database at one time... I'm going to have to track that one down.
1. Green Day - American Idiot 2. Metallica - Master of Puppets 3. AC/DC - Back in Black 4. Transplants - Transplants 5. System of a Down - Toxicity 6. Green Day - Nimrod 7. Iron Maiden - Dance of Death 8. Metallica - The Black Album 9. Bad Religion - The Empire Strikes First 10. Slipknot - Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses
Well, I know that some albums would certainly be in the top reviewed albums on metacritic if they were listed:
The Glow, pt. 2 ~ The Microphones The Milk-Eyed Mender ~ Joanna Newsom (a 10 on neumu.net !!!) Thought for Food ~ The Books Deadringer ~ RJD2 Homogenic ~ Bjork Portishead ~ Portishead OK Computer ~ Radiohead Endless Summer ~ Fennesz
some modern classics that should be listed
------------------------------------------------------- Awkwardness happening to someone you love!
sharon jones and the dap-kings newish (released january 2005) album "naturally" really ought to be on metacritic.
i've seen reviews for it in a few places (allmusic, p-fork, stylus, CMG to name some) and they're all absoltuely glowing, yet i think this gem will go overlooked.
please, metacritic, don't let this happen!
------------------------- Many years ago we found that light and sound were ample food.
Note: Comets on Fire - Blue Cathedral *is* on metacritic.
Here are a few 2005 ones..
Mary Gauthier - Mercy Now
I can think of two reasons this wouldn't be on metacritic. Either there's country-bias against it, or reviews didn't trickle in fast enough to make the radar. But I haven't seen a review lower than 4/5 stars or B+, so I think this'd be over 80.
Mahjongg - Raydoncong2005
I'm not actually sure this one has enough reviews to make it yet.
Saturday Looks Good To Me - All Your Summer Songs Saturday Looks Good To Me - Every Night Sightings - Absolutes Sightings - Arrived In Gold Adult. - Resuscitation Architecture In Helsinki - Fingers Crossed Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
An absolutely fantastic dance-ish album that got overlooked because it's Canadian and their label apparently made no effort whatsoever to tell people in the US it existed. The only review of it I've ever seen is allmusic.
I'm glad to see somebody else is a fan of Bran Van 3000, BtS. I only know the 1998 album Glee, which I discovered through a chance hearing of the semi-hit "Drinking in L.A." I wondered then if I should track Discosis down. Now, I think I will.
Thanks!

from 2005 I'd like to see Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy. It's been reviewed by almost all the major review sites (NY Times, pitchfork, stylus, tinymixtapes, popmatters, cokemachineglow, all music guide, etc.) and it hasn't recieved a negative review yet. It would probably be top 10 if it got added.
"Back from Samoa" by The Angry Samoans -- 17 minutes of blistering punk, including "Lights Out" (poke, poke, poke your eyes out!), "They Saved Hitler's Cock", "Homosexual" and "Not of This Earth." I particularly like this album because the lead guitar player, Greg Turner, was my calculus teacher. No joke. And inside the jack, he's wearing a shirt from "The Fried Abortions." I love it.
It seems to be one of the best reviewed pop albums in a while, and there are enough reviews for it to featured (NY Times, Amazon.Com, AllMusicGuide, Billboard, E!, Entertainment Weekly, Chicago Sun-Times)
The strict average of these reviews is 85, and of course, that's before it gets curved up. If the non-linkable sources give reviews as good as the linkable sources, then Okkervil River, if included, would probably have the highest metascore of the year. If not, it'd be up there. 87-89, probably. (And I have a feeling the professional publications haven't touched it yet..)
