As a theme for a playlist, I thought it might be fun to put together some songs that inspired band names. I've come up with a few, but there must be dozens. Please help jar my memory! This is what I've got so far (inspiration in parentheses):

Slowdive (Siouxsie & the Banshees)
Spoon (Can)
Eric's Trip (Sonic Youth)
Baby Lemonade (Syd Barrett)
Sisters of Mercy (Leonard Cohen)
Urge Overkill (Parliment)

EDIT: I'm going to update this list here:

Ladytron (Roxy Music)
Radiohead (Talking Heads)
Burning Airlines (Brian Eno)
Pretty Girls Make Graves (The Smiths)
Death Cab for Cutie (The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band)
Stars of Track and Field (Belle and Sebastian)
Negativland (Neu!)
World Leader Pretend (REM)
Oh no! Oh my! (The Robot Ate Me)
Beachwood Sparks (The Zombies/Beach Boys)
Cassavetes (Fugazi)
Jesu (Godflesh)
Motorhead (Hawkwind)
The Rolling Stones (Muddy Waters)
Fugazi (Marillion)
Deacon Blue (Steely Dan)
Aqualung (Jethro Tull)
The Hazey Janes (Nick Drake)
Powderfinger (Neil Young)
Shakespeare's Sister (The Smiths)
Cows (The Suburbs)
Funeral For A Friend (Elton John)
Tiny Dancers (Elton John)
Deep Purple (Nino Tempo and April Stevens)
Happy The Man (Genesis)
Wreck of the The Old 97 - Old 97's (Johnny Cash)
The C in Cake - The Sea and Cake [(Gastr del Sol)
The Black Angels (The Velvet Underground)
Overkill (Motorhead)
I'm Not Like Everybody Else (The Kinks)
Big A Little a (Crass)
Uh Huh Her (PJ Harvey)
Radio 4 (Public Image Ltd.)
Scary Kids Scaring Kids (Cap'n Jazz)
Primitive Painters (Felt)
Boris (Melvins)
Bearsuit (Tindersticks)
Shonen Knife (Redd Kross)
Garageland (The Clash)
Godsmack (Alice in Chains)
Thee Machine Gun Elephant (The Damned - in a roundabout way)
Gigolo Aunts (Syd Barrett)
Velocity Girl (Primal Scream)
Wednesday Week (The Undertones)
Fruit Bats (Smog)
Frogs (Toy Love)

Red signifies unsure if inspiration actually came from the song-- could be a coinkidink

Ladytron is named after the Roxy Music song, but I'm sure most of you know that, I can't think of anymore right now.

Some good ones their Nmeilborg. Some I should have remembered.

Also, I should have remembered WLP, because I remember checking them out simply because that's one of my favorite REM songs.

That is insane and very cool that a band as obscure as The Robot Ate Me has inspired a band to name themselves after one of their songs.

I know there are a lot of bands named after Fugazi songs because there was a thread on another forum I saw recently commenting on it, but I can't name any of them off the top of my head.

I didn't even know who The Robot Ate Me was until I liked Oh No!Oh My! and read how they got the name. Have since got only a little of their music. The song Oh no Oh my is a good one though.

Nirvana (The Cult)

The Cult also had a song called "Soul Asylum", but I'm pretty sure it didn't pre-date the band.

Are you sure about that? They didn't pick the name for the Hindu/Buddhist term?

Thanks for being honest, it won't make the cut. I just thought of another, although it's not exact.

Beachwood Sparks (The Zombies' "Beechwood Park")

I think it was an homage to that song and the Beach Boys-- and maybe the band Sparks too!

I can think of one, Cassavetes. If you think of some more, let me know.

Because I tried to trick MJ before with Nirvana, I thought I'd list some serious ones, now that I have time.

Motorhead - Named after a song from Lemmy's former band, Hawkwind.

Perhaps the mother of bands named after songs, The Rolling Stones named themselves after Muddy Waters' "Rollin' Stone".

Grunge pioneers Green River share a name with a CCR tune, but like Nirvana, I can't be positive that was their namesake.

Are you sure Cassavetes wasn't named after filmmaker John Cassavetes?

Speaking of Fugazi, there's a Marillion song (and album) called "Fugazi". Again, I'm not positive this is actually their namesake.
