I think Cat Power is on an incredible roll. Of her seven albums there isn't a single one that isn't interesting or worth the purchase, and by my count her streak of "great" albums stands at 4, starting at Moon Pix. One shy of Radiohead's. Not too shabby.
The Afghan Whigs-Gentlemen, Black Love, 1965 Pearl Jam-Ten, Vs., Vitalogy Soundgarden-Badmotorfinger, Superunkown, Down on the Upside Big Star-#1 Record, Radio City, Third/Sister Lovers
I agree with just about everything here (although I would go early pink floyd rather than late). I would just like to add a couple:
polvo - cor-crane secret, today's active lifestyles, exploded drawing
the fall - live at the witch trials, dragnet, grotesque, hex enduction hour
tom waits - swordfishtrombones, rain dogs, frank's wild years (surprised I haven't seen this one yet) plus mule variations, alice, blood money. You might be able to tack on bone machine to the beginning, but I haven't heard the black rider yet.
Wow, I'm surprised that it took so long for Pavement to be mentioned; they were the first band that I thought of (besides Radiohead). I think that the first four Echo and the Bunnymen albums made for a great series of records as well.
Oh I forgot Talking Heads! Talking Heads 77, More Songs About Buildings and Food, Fear of Music, Remain in Light, Speaking in Tongues I hold each of those albums close to my heart. (sorry I just realized they have already been mentioned. so I'll second them)
Six or seven great hard rock records in six years. You cannot fuck with that.
1976 High Voltage 1977 Let There Be Rock 1978 Powerage 1978 If You Want Blood You've Got It (Live) 1979 Highway to Hell 1980 Back in Black 1981 Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Drive-By Truckers: Southern Rock Opera, Decoration Day, The Dirty South, A Blessing and a Curse
You could argue that "Pizza Deliverance" and their live record, "Alabama Ass Whuppin'" could be tacked on to the beginning of that, too. And the 2005 "Live at the 40 Watt" performance between "The Dirty South" and ABAC.
Needless to say, I'm a huge DBT fan, and I still haven't seen them live.

Yay! you made my day. That is what this topic is kind of about, is finding bands who you wouldn't necessarily think would have this type of run of albums, but yes AC/DC would easily qualify. I don't know if anyone has mentioned Metallica's first five albums, but they woule definetely qualify.
