That's part of their charm! Embrace your inner serial killer. "I Cum Blood"? Next you're going to tell me I should feel guilty for listening to Carcass!

Seriously though, I listen to bands who have lyrics I'm a lot less proud of - almost every single black metal band, NWA, Paul McCartney. At least I think (and hope) that CC isn't meant to be taken too seriously.

I find Carcass lyrically interesting. I think they were vegetarian and the aesthetic was to put people off eating meat. It's all very disgusting, but it's not malicious. It's obvious they put a lot of time & effort into composing the words. You need a medical dictionary to decipher some of the meanings - all very clever. I liked that a lot.

Cannibal Corpse however -

'Necropaedophile' anyone? Ouch.

As much as I try, I just can't treat a song about sexual intercourse with dead children as a 'bit of fun'. I know they're heavy as hell and they sound great, but I can't help thinking Chris Barnes is a bit of a prick for finding that stuff funny.

They remind me of those people who rent the most hideous film in the shop to prove how hard they are - 'I'll have Faces of Death 1 & 2 and Cannibal Holocaust please'. Then they spend 6 hours pretending to enjoy these awful movies and laugh unconvincingly at the worst bits.

It's not that I think they're sick - It's that they want me to think they're sick and I don't - I just think they're a bit sad.

Unfortunately, the riffs are great - devastating stuff. I love the 'grunting' too - It's REALLY low end stuff. Musically, they're a full on no-frills death metal band, and that's always a good thing in my book.

Kelly Clarkson is definitely by big guilty pleasure. Also Christina Aguilera.

U2 is one of my Guilty pleasures. I hid behind my wife's love of the band when people see that I have about 60 CDs from the Irish group.

Coldplay- "You know how I know you're gay? You like Coldplay." Enough said.

Eisley - a family band from Texas, at least one of them is hot!

My Chemical Romance - Their albums are actually decent despite all the hatred. I don't really get all the "emo" classification. Much better then Fall Out Boy and Panic!.

Limp Bizkit - I was big fan in grade 5

You should feel no shame about Eisley.

Yeah, I can see what you mean about CC. Fortunately the singing is impossible to understand anyway. It's something that a lot of "extreme" metal bands do, and whether it's because those kind of gross-out lyrics fit the music or because they're just too lazy to write anything more thoughtful depends on who you ask. It bothers me less than awful lyrics that I CAN understand, at least. I do think that they are (or were in the beginning and are now afraid of changing that formula) trying more to be "shocking" than to provide a cheap laugh. But I'm not an expert on death metal.

Also, stupid and childish is not *always* a bad thing. A little Anal Cunt is pretty damn funny when I'm in the right mood.

Anal Cunt! They were a band I always WANTED to love, but they fell short of the mark musically. The song titles were pure genius. For example - 'All our fans are gay', 'Limp Bizkit think they're black but they're just gay' etc.

Unfortunatley, when I heard them, the amazing sense of humour was lost amongst a lot of shouting and blastbeats. It's not that they are terrible, just that I would have loved the music to be as good as the song titles.

It is hard to take your sacrilege about Zeppelin and RAtM seriously after reading this.

For some weird reason I've been listening to "Look At Us" by Sarina Paris a lot lately. And for those who don't know who she is, she is a cheesy electro-pop Canadian two-hit wonder back in 2000/2001.

Hey, I didn't say they were a good band. Just funny. Duncan is right when he says he wishes their music were as good as their humor.

I listen to a lot of stuff that detracts from my ability to be taken seriously. I can find the good in almost anything. But I would hope that the way I express my opinions is more important than whatever ancillary ones I might hold. I don't post my theories of aesthetics in pop music here because I know no one cares, but at the same time I'm ashamed of none of it. There really shouldn't be such a thing as a guilty pleasure.

Also, I hope (?) I haven't given off the impression that I dislike Zeppelin and Rage. I just think the orthodox opinion of them is inflated.

Posting that last FM list was a damn brave thing to do. Like you, I can find good in just about anything (see my above guilty pleasures). I enjoy some Zep and most Rage, but I don't profess the greatness of either. I just like to listen to them. I won't take your "immaturity" comment as a bad thing, not with both Hannah Montana and Lizzie McGuire on your last FM Big Grin

LOL. I just went back and looked, hadn't realized that post was you. Can't endorse most of that list myself, but much respect. And at least half of Breakaway is *incredible*, and the rest is pretty good; I actually saw Kelly Clarkson live last summer (2 summers ago? my memory for actual real life events is pathetically much weaker than my memory for music trivia). She needs to get back to that style instead of trying to be Alanis Morissette.

I bought the CD Breakaway for my daughter, but stole it out of her room in the cover of night, burned it to iTunes, and returned it without anyone being the wiser.

I've also done this with my sister's CDs.

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the sacrilege thread, but that one seems to mainly be devoted to trashing music, not praising it. Here goes:

I legitimately think that Saves the Day is the best new band of the past 10 years.

For what it's worth, I grew up within an hour of where they're from. But there are a lot of other Jersey bands that I don't love nearly as much, and my Saves the Day devotion has hardly flagged at all. I'd give everything they've done after their debut at least 4 out of 5 stars.

I have a feeling that if anyone here is even familiar with them I'm going to be attacked like Peter Lorre in M. I can usually find at least *some* critics who agree with my views on a particular artist, but in this case I seem to be totally alone. Any takers?

I can't say I endorse much of the list myself. Half of it is just plain bad, but I like it knowing this full well. I will stick up for Blink-182's Dude Ranch, Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway, and Fall Out Boy's From Under the Cork Tree though. I think that taken on their own merits, they are all at least good albums.

My biggest would probably be ELO, although I really do love them. >_<

Others:
My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade" album.
Justin Timberlake (FS/LS always gets strange looks from my indie friends when they look at my CD collection.)
Meat Loaf ("Bat Out Of Hell" is an amazing album.)
