I'm putting together a soundtrack to a home movie for our baby boy who is due to be born sometime in the next few weeks and is our first child. I would like to make a sountrack with songs and classical music that celebrates the joy of becoming a parent for the first time. Or just happy pop songs that will go well over baby footage.

Something like Louis Armstrong's "What a wonderful world" for example.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. Smiler

Cute idea.

I'd offer up "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys or from Brian Wilson's SMiLE. Maybe "God Only Knows" as well. "In My Life" by the Beatles is good, too.

"Ode to Joy" might fit there as well.

Beautiful Boy/Lennon of course.

Sinead O'connor has recorded many nice songs about her son... My Darling Child/This is to Mother You/or even Nothing Compares 2 U.

Moody Blues - Eyes of a Child

They might have had the worst haircuts (see back of In Search of the Lost Chord LP) but they did some gorgeous tunes. "To Our Children's Children's Children" is an excellent album too.

Congratulations, Jasper!

The first song that comes to my mind is Chrissy Hynde's excellent meditation on the birth of her first child, "Show Me."

Loggins & Messina's "Danny's Song" may be sappy, but in the context it kinda brings a lump to my throat.

From the classical canon, the association with "Goin' Home" was added only later, but the Largo from Dvorak's 9th Symphony would make a beautiful addition.

While not precisely program music, Robert Schumann's collection of short works for piano, "Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood)," Op. 15 would make a good addition as well.

This should be a memorable soundtrack. I hope you'll post the final mix.

Now Playing: "Let It Loose" The Rolling Stones Exile on Main St.

I'm sorry I'm late to this topic, Jasper, but if we knew you and your wife's first names, or some possible names for your son, that might help!

One general suggestion: "Your Mother Should Know" by the Beatles.

If I get some feedback, I'll try to come up with some more.

P.S. Congrats to you and yours!

Well we haven't totally settled on a name yet but it will probably be Louis.

Thanks.

Hey Jasper, how about a song from a fellow countryman, Paul Kelly: "From Little Things Big Things Grow"? I know it's a protest song, but the chorus should fit in nicely. Plus, I'm sure Kelly's got lots of good songs for this, but I'm not focused enough right now to think of some more. pE, any ideas?

All good suggestions. Although I don't think that home videos are the sort of thing that really need to be "dressed up", so to speak. Could just be me.

Maybe I'm too late, but I think Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" would be a good one.

Dunno if you're still taking suggestions, Jasper, but keylimtrev reminded me of the relatively obscure jazz singer Oscar Brown, Jr. recently and that reminded me of Rickie Lee Jones' terrific cover of "Dat Dere" from the album Pop Pop.

Great song about the kinds of questions kids ask when the world is filled with an overwhelming number of new things.

How's the mix coming?

Now Playing: "Dreams of Steam" Elk City [/i]Status[/i] (Hidden Agenda)
