Mask - Jeff Gautier Goatette (17:59)
Only Skin - Joanna Newsom (16:53)
Handguns and Firearms - Japancakes (16:43)

Less Than You Think - Wilco (15:04)
Heron King Blues - Califone (14:55)
Beauties Can Die - M83 (14:38)
Dance With Me - The Juan MacLean (14:05)
Danger Bird - Neil Young (Live) (13:34)
Expensive Shit - Fela Kuti (13:36)
Untitled 7 - Sigur Ros (12:59)
Visiting Friends - Animal Collective (12:36)

Okay, this is getting annoying. I have at least 30 more. That list is good enough.

So instead of just naming long songs which all of us obviously have in our collections, which long songs hold up? What are the best ones that hold your attention for 15 minutes and are better for being so long?

My favorite long song is Sonic Youth's Diamond Sea which is really a 4 to 5 minute typical Thurston Moore sung Sonic Youth tune with a 10 minute drone/feedback workout at the end which doesn't get boring for a single second. Its Sonic Youth at their very best and captures everything amazing about them in one song. The song is gorgeous, and the ending takes you to another level. Sit in your living room and put it up loud and its just jaw dropping awesome.

No love for "Diamond Sea", and you can make it through all of "Night Falls on Hoboken"?????

Unless you were referring to your Polyphonic Spree song. Can't tell with your post. Roll Eyes

Counting now, i've got 40+ songs which are longer than 15 minutes, and i reckon the majority hold up pretty well.

My favourites would have to be the godspeed! tracks on 'lift your skinny fists' (though they are more like suites than singular songs), and much of the stuff from miles davis' fusion period (i'm thinking 'in a silent way' and 'bitches brew' in particular)

The Spree song is the loser, and why is it so difficult to understand? "Hoboken" kicks its ass, but it's not really important to me anymore.

I'm a big YLT fan, but "Night Falls on Hoboken" is one of their few mis-steps in my opinion. Its it not the length, either. It just goes nowhere, in my opinion. I guess by putting it at the end of the album its not hurting anyone.
