Five years ago, anyone making a list of the best 90s albums would include this. Today I hardly see it mentioned. It is a fantastic record. Nice pick.
Yeah I like it a lot too but now I feel I need to move it some, see what I mean about being unhappy with a list?
(Saw you changed your post from 10 years ago to 5)
Yeah, I guess 10 years ago if you had it on your list, you'd be omnipotent or something.

...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - Madonna
This was her greatest hits record, right?
I don't know about 'greatest hits' but it is by far my favorite by ...the Trail of Dead.

Actually Shadrach that is a compilation of B-Sides and Rarities. It shows off Madonna with a harder, edgier sound than what you hear on her actual records. Check it out if you get the chance.
Damn how did I not notice the resurgence of this thread until now and how the fuck it is already the middle of November . Anyways...

Not sure if this is what you do, but if I'm gonna post a long list with repetitive bold and italicized shenanigans then I usually write it out in (insert word processor of choice). Then I copy and paste the [bracketed command] or [/bracketed command] in the desired place(s). Saves a bit of time and sanity versus using the command window (sorry if this was already obvious - I'm not too tech/programing savy).
I'm digging these lists, some stuff familiar and much of it I'll now have to check out. I'm not going to make a feeble attempt at a 90s list, I already sort of did in max jack's thread. I did a list for the 2000s (so far) and it was really stupid, the world is worse because of it actually, so I won't repeat the mistake here. I've been on a Beck binge of late for no apparent reason, but that's included heavy listening from Guero and the Information as well.
To weigh in on Weezer - I would only have the motivation to start a band (and learn how to play guitar/sing/dance/entertain people who are not me/etc.) if it was a Weezer ONLY cover band that played in some dingy going-out-of-business local bar/comedy club on Thursdays. It would be best if we just played like a 60 minute continuous amalgamation of Weezer songs, with most of the material from the first two albums. The "1 song" set would epically conclude with the final 1/3rd or so of "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here"...and it would RAWK! At least that's how it plays out in my day dreams.... only in dreams.
Here's a top 10 that's valid only for today's date and is skewed towards stuff that I still listen to in 2007:
1. Eels, Electro-Shock Blues 2. Madonna, Ray of Light 3. Stereo MC's, Connected 4. Air, Moon Safari 5. Massive Attack, Blue Lines 6. Portishead, Dummy 7. Moby, Play 8. Beck, Odelay 9. Morcheeba, Big Calm 10. Bjork, Debut
And here's a gratuitous and really long list of honorable mentions: William Orbit, Barenaked Ladies, Yo la Tengo, Phish, Blonde Redhead, The Dandy Warhols, Annie Lennox, Basement Jaxx, Plasmic Honey, Hooverphonic, The Flaming Lips, Nirvana, Amee Mann, Kristine W, Faithless, Cake, Garbage, Underworld, Elliott Smith, Olive, Sarah McLachlan, Afro-Celt Sound System, Lamb, Spoon, Guster, Deee-Lite, Utah Saints, Sinead O'Connor, Belle & Sebastian, En Vogue, Francois Kevorkian, Chris Rea, The Cardigans, . . .
'Tis the season for listmaking, so I gave this a shot for the first time. I don't have a huge number of albums from the 90s, so this is from admittedly limited choices.
1. Radiohead - OK Computer No explanation.
2. Emmylou Harris - Wrecking Ball Absolutely gorgeous. I have loved this album for a long time now, and it's still every bit as good and as haunting as it was the first time around.
3. Portishead - Dummy I didn't discover this until 15 years after its release, but better late than never.
4. Bjork - Homogenic I had a hard time learning to like Bjork. Finally with Homogenic, I fell in love. Starting with "Hunter" and "Joga," then "Bachelorette," and all the way through to "All is Full of Love," this album really grabbed me and it's still my favorite Bjork album.
5. Radiohead - The Bends "Fake Plastic Trees," "My Iron Lung," "Black Star," and "Street Spirit." Especially "Street Spirit."
6. The Cardigans - Gran Turismo Already mentioned in the "mediocre bands" thread.
7. Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory Yes, the Gallaghers are arrogant jerks. They also made some great music in the mid-90s.
8. Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byjun It belongs here if you go by the allmusic guide release date of 1999. But I can see putting it in the 2000s list if no one really heard it until then.
9. U2 - Achtung Baby I don't care, I still love this one far more than The Joshua Tree. Is that strange?
10. The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin I actually prefer Yoshimi, but this one's great too.
A top 10 will do for now. After I get some of the Wilco and PJ Harvey releases I still don't have, I can update it again. Honorable mentions should go to all of Belle and Sebastian's albums, Bjork's Post, Fiona Apple's When the Pawn..., and The Verve's Urban Hymns.

Very nice, Jeff. That's a top-5 90's album for me as well. If only E could recapture some of the magic from that one I'd be thrilled (not that the stuff he's put out since then has been too shabby, just sayin').

Not at all, I think there are a lot of people here—including myself—that would agree with you. Though I still really like The Joshua Tree, not only is Achtung Baby far more influential but also a much stronger album. I’d put it in my top five of the 90s, easily.
I really like Joshua Tree, but I can't think of an other songs on it other than the first three songs. I think it could have been an EP and my feelings for it would be just about the same.
That said. I like U2 alot, but I don't think there is an "album" that I truely love of theirs. My favorite, in a pinch would be Achtung.

This kind of treads is always a hidden invitation to show your taste with making a list so these are the 10 best albums of the 90s IMO:
1. In the Aeroplane over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel. The Best Songs: all of them. Oh my...
2. Loveless - My Bloody Valentine. I think that if a double A single Sometimes/Blown a Wish were released it would be the best single spawned by human-beings ever. The album is a magical journey into the world of pure musical wonders and unprecedented production that makes the atmosphere of Loveless deep enough to sink entirely into. 'Blown a Wish', 'Sometimes', 'What You Want', 'When You Sleep'.
3. OK Computer - Radiohead. There's nuff said about this one, so i'd like to skip the blurb at all. 'Let Down', 'No Surprises', 'Airbag', 'Paranoid Android'.
4. Bee Thousand - Guided by Voices. The brightest lo-fi gem of the 90s, Bee Thousand is also something completely special for me. It's seamless blending of unbelievable music and lyrics of unequalled beauty and originality is what makes the album an undeniable masterpiece. 'Gold Star for Robot Boy', 'Hrdcore UFOs', 'Echos Myron'.
5. The Bends - Radiohead. The Bends depicts the era when Radiohead were still so fresh, so unabashed and when their music was so warm and pure that it could easily make you cry. Unlike their two following efforts, the Bends wasn't completely perfect, but this is just one of the most sincere and soothing album ever recorded. 'Fake Plastic Trees', 'The Bends', 'Street Spirit', 'High and Dry'.
6. If You're Feeling Sinister - Belle & Sebastian. Yes, I like that singer's voice! And that marvellous songs! The album is simple indie pop bliss all the way through. 'The Star of Track and Field', 'Mayfly', ' The Fox in the Snow'.
7. Either/Or - Elliott Smith. I think this collection of soft stripped-down masterpieces is criminally overlooked today. The musical and lyrical worlds of this oeuvre are both incredible. 'Speed Trials', 'Ballad of Big Nothing', 'Punch and Judy'.
8. The Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips. It's the best summer album of the 90s for me. It is maybe just because I listened to it for the first time last summer or due to it's bright, juicy songs, lush, colourful instrumentation and cool lyrics. 'Waiting for the Superman', 'Race for the Prize'. 9. I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One - Yo La Tengo. I have this album in terribly low quality (ca. 32 kbps), but maybe it's the best way to listen to these incredibly beautiful songs with some vague, ambient flavour to them. The album is very diverse musically. It ranges from slow atmospheric ballads to bright indie rock anthems. 'Stockholm Syndrome', '1 PM Again', 'Sugarcube', 'My Little Corner of the World'.
10. Slanted & Enchanted - Pavement. The watershed in indie rock history, Slanted & Enchated is an inventive and challenging record for cool kids that want to have some fun being cool anyway. 'Zurich Is Stained', 'Here', 'Summer Babe'.

That's a nice list Strawberry. I would rank Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain ahead of S&E, but that's quibbling. Glad to see B1000 so far up your list.

Four of the albums on your list are also on mine, strawberry.
I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor I was back to pondering my mortality.

There seems to be so much of E's psyche in those songs that it's hard to imagine there could possibly be enough left over to ever produce an equal.
My favorite line is, "What I really need to miss is you."
